Weight Watchers ThreadAfter reading about Fuddy's plans to get lose 8 stone for his parachute jump I wanted a way of offering my support and this is it.
On Tuesday, I was diagnosed as having fatty liver disease. This has been brought on by the cumulative effects of living to excess, generally not taking care of myself and 5 years of meds. As such I am currently carrying around 107kg. This gives me a BMI of 33.8 but also body fat of 33.8%. I have got two months to lose 2st or I will really start feeling the effects as my liver is already showing signs of distress. Ultimately I have 6 months to get my body fat down to 14.7%. So Fuddy, you are not doing this alone. Currently I am waiting to see a nutritionist to help me with my diet, I've been told not to drink for the next 6 months and have started back down the gym, going 5 days a week (Mon, Wed, Fri- Heavy cardio- Tue, Thurs- light cardio and resistance training) So taking Tuesday as my start point, I'm gonna bore you all by posting up weekly updates of my progress and hope that this will encourage others to follow suit. Re: Weight Watchers ThreadHi DanDan
Good Luck with that I think if I am correct here, the liver is the only organ that will in time heal it self, providing it isn't damaged by alcohol.(Cirrhosis) Try and keep a food diary and the way you are feeling, often people tend to over eat if they are feeling down or stressed out! Remember too, drink plenty of water, as often 'we feel hungry and really all it is , is our bodies are de hydrated so get loads of water down you.. A great natural remedy for the Liver is called 'Milk Thistle' you can buy this at any Health Food Shop, here is a link if your interested in knowing about the 'Milk Thistle' http://liversupport.com/milkthistle.htm .. Always tell your Doctor and or your dietician if your taking any natural remedies i.e if you decide to take this 'Milk Thistle' Please let us know how you get on, best of luck to you! Regards Roo
Re: Weight Watchers ThreadThere are some great ideas there Roo. Thanks.
I already have to keep a mood diary so I suppose adding a food section wouldn't be too hard. Changing my eating habits is gonna be the biggest challenge cos I usually don't eat till gone 3pm I've got an appointment on Monday to review my meds and because of the dosage I'm on it usually rules out most herbal stuff and also a lot of other "standard" medication as well. Bala is gonna be a sober one for me too being that I've been told no alcohol for at least 6 months Cirrhosis can be caused by other things as well not just alcohol The water thing I generally do any way especially when I'm training and I try to have a pint of water before eating. This thread though isn't just for me. It is intended to give Fuddy some support and I hope he'll join in but that doesn't stop anyone else from giving it a go. The more that do it the easier it will become especially as we can all share our experiences. So come on peeps. All those that were due to start diets/weight loss/getting fit for the New Year, now is the time. That and it gives us a better chance of seeing Fuddy throwing himself out of a perfectly good aircraft If you're sat there thinking things just can't get any worse, just wait......

Re: Weight Watchers ThreadDanDan, you say you don't eat till 3, maybe you should try just eating something in the morning even if its just a slice of toast,or some fruit, something light, because apparently if you go a lot time with out food, your body's metabolism slows right down, as the body goes into a kind of panic, thinking, when is the next lot of food is coming, so this slows down your metabolism, and then you can't burn the food intake as quickly, so worth giving it a go, by eating 'little and often, and that will in turn speed up your metabolism and then you'll lose the weight quicker, depending on what you are snacking on, there are lots of fat in take in those kind of foods, crisps etc as you know, but eating a healthy balance 3 meals a day and no snacking, you should see a good result
I would still mention the 'Milk Thistle' thou to the clinic your attending...Good Luck to you with that Please let us know how your getting on Regards Roo

Re: Weight Watchers ThreadJust a little update for peeps.
Unfortunately my Grandad took a turn for the worst late Thursday and finally passed away in the early hours of this morning. This has meant that until Sunday I shall be punishing my body somewhat and everything has gone by the by. I shall, however, be picking up again on Monday cos I refuse to use this as an excuse to stop before I really got started. It is not something he would have ever allowed. I thank you all in advance for your messages of condolence (not a huge assumption, just knowing what you lot are like) but do ask that they not be posted in this thread. I want it to remain as positive as possible so that I can do the same. Many Thanks Dan If you're sat there thinking things just can't get any worse, just wait......

Re: Weight Watchers ThreadWell just a little update.
I started back at the gym on Monday and had the same starting point as before (107kg). Due to the fact that my Landlady has joined Slimming World it has made my life a little easier on the diet front although eating healthily is giving me wind I start CBT (no, not the bike one Cheers for your support If you're sat there thinking things just can't get any worse, just wait......
