desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2sehi all im really in need of a replacement engine for my 2000 year w plate b series lwb frontera , it is the x2.2se engine petrol with a manual gearbox plus i also require a radiator as i think thats what cooked it ! i live near leicester and my emails sichippy@hotmail.co.uk im happy to pay a reasonable amount for anybodys spare /so long as its a good runner , im loathed to scrap a car ive had from new , but as im not flush i cant afford main dealer prices .my old engine can beused in part ex if needed, and if its out the car all the better regards simon .
Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2sealso justa quikie the reason my engine has had it . it lost power running on 3 and will still drive albeit rough cos i guess its big end bearings and not worth the hassle of a rebuild , but i dont know wether the oil pump went first. the oil light never comes on, but it was using a lot of oil prior to rough running and now its died , could the oil light have let me down?

Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2sehi thanks for that i emailed the chap and it appears itsfrom a late A series will it still drop straight in ? and its the x22xe type but more importabntly what difference is the change over engine? thank you
Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2seThey are essentially the same engine. The SE has slightly higher compression and the cam cover is different. certain internal components are different as well, different bearing shells and so forth. Otherwise same CC, same horsepower and torque figures.
Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2sethanks forthat , do you think it would be worth doing the head gasket on the exchange engine ive bought as its only done 77k , as a matter of course cos im swapping them any way and ive heard on hear they usually go after 80k any way? plus any other tips i could do with whilst im at it ? im doing the clutch and radiator as well i always had a nasty oil leak at around flywheel as well.
Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2seIf you are willing and able to replace the head gasket then i wouldn't bother.
Why go to the time, effort and expense just in case it might possibly become a problem at some point in the future? Personally i'd wait until that time, whenever it might be...could be 3k...could be 30k, might be never. I have a fault flow chart somewhere with the first line being "Does the damn thing work? --> Yes --> Don't bugger about with it" Stood me well that advice, well at least till i bought a fronty. Its infectious you know

Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2sehi whats the milage? where abouts is the car located? would it drive far ie leicestershire? and it looks like a b series not a 97 is that correct ? thanks for contacting me. regards simon
Re: desperate seeking replacement engine 2.2seHead gasket could go on for many thousands of miles with a leak or go catastrophically tomorrow, usually roundabout lunchtime.
If you are planning on keeping the car then I would strongly suggest changing the head gasket as a blown head gasket on a 2.2 can cause long term damage. I have planned on changing the head gasket on mine every 60000 miles regardless as I have more or less decided to keep the car for good now.
