SWB v LWB...... "A"-series

Postby dandan on Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:34 pm

AAAArrrgggghhh! I can't doit!!!!!!!

I'm looking at getting another fronty just as soon as I get my driving license sorted but for the life of me I can't decide whether to get another LWB or switch to a SWB?

I gotta be honest and say I like the space you get in a LWB but not sure I can justify it, being that most of the time it's just me in the car and I don't carry all my tools around with me any more. But then there's the times when I've got the missus and her little girl (little = 8 yrs old  ) and I wonder if the rear of a SWB is gonna be comfy and suitable especially when we go up to Norwich to see family.
As well as a daily runner, I'm gonna wanna take it laning as well and it's weighing up the pros and cons for that too.

Then there's running costs, maintenance and cost of mods (  )

Please help!!!

Having had both The room in the rear of the SWB is humongous, its only a four seater but massive leg room, I only got the LWB as the shorty was written off and having a new born baby it was easier to get the car seat sorted in the LWB.

As Im the only one in my car 95% of the time Ive thought about going to a shorty but Ive decided to keep the LWB and fit a fold out bed in the back for weekend laning trips.

Both the Shorties and the Longies have similar fuel consumption figures.

Shorties are quite bouncy (in my experience) but do have a better turning circle and as a result feel nimbler to drive.

Off road shorts have a better break-over angle and less overhang at the rear so dropping down into dips you are less likely to hit something but longs are better at climbing and feel more stable on side slopes and corners and in my opinion look nicer.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

when i bought my swb i also looked at a lwb but because i do i lot of course fishing and cant carry much to far these days i found the swb gets me into places that the lwb would have trouble with.

I have to say, mine now only gets stuck climbing, in places the standard LWB will climb, very frustrating.

In a pay and play the short will serve you very well and can be tugged out of the bits it gets stuck. If your prepared to endanger the sills a bit and lift a Long it will in my opinion be a better laner. Plus the space....
