Im Getting Itchy Feet - Review - 15th Dec 2008Phew!
That was a cracking day! Loved every minute as usual. We had a route made up which covered approximately 60 miles. We met up in Betws Y Coed shortly after 10am and after the usual pre-laning banter and whatnots we headed for the first lane a couple of miles north and west of Betws. This was a great lane which used to be quite rocky but has since been graded a bit starting with some steep, sharp bends before opening onto the top of a moor offering some fantastic views towards Betws and the surrounding mountains before winding our way down through some forestry roads and heading east to start the second lane (Sarn Helen) back towards Betws. A quick stop at Betws and another natter and we headed off towards Penmachno (Hi Kylie) where we found a couple of nice long lanes with a couple of short road sections between them which ended a couple of miles south of Pentrefoelas. A quick natter after this section saw us heading north with The Lost Lake to our left and Lynn Brenig to our right as we kept going until we came to Bylchau and Nantglyn. This was to be our final set of lanes as it was getting on a bit. The first lane was nice and easy requiring only 2 wheel drive before starting my favourite lane of the year, Slushy, Humpy, Leaf Littered Lane as Iv come to call it. This is a great find and although very short it takes 20 minutes and when damp it definitely taxes a tires grip. Moving on we started the final lane of the day just south of Nantglyn which we finished in darkness before heading our seperate ways. An absolutely cracking day which Roo and I thoroughly enjoyed. To those who didnt make it you missed a good one but dont worry there will be more! At Roo's house so will upload pics when I get home.

Re: Im Getting Itchy Feet - Review - 15th Dec 2008We could arrange something for Feb I should imagine
Got to say you would struggle on road tyres on one or two of the lane and you definitely wouldnt be the type of person who polishes his car if you want to do a few of the lanes to Ste

Re: Im Getting Itchy Feet - Review - 15th Dec 2008Most of the lanes are do-able on AT tires minimum. Most of the lanes have a hard surface underneath the slime. A couple I wouldnt attempt without MT's.
As Ste said expect some scratches, although we came through without incident today apart from a couple of new scratches the routes definitely arent for shinies and the possibility of getting a dent or two is there. Im willing to take a group out but I doubt very much Il be doing any more laning before christmas or the new year unless it snows And yes, the scenery was absolutely fantastic. Snow capped peaks everywhere as you can see from the pics. Valleys stretching on for miles. and best of all was the mist, driving through it and then coming out above it and looking down on a carpet of fluffy cloud things. Had the day been a bit longer then we could have done a few more lanes that we had marked out but as it was, the last lane was finished off in the dark but it was a straightforward one with little chance of getting stuck, a very different experience to the last time I decided to finish off a lane in the dark

Re: Im Getting Itchy Feet - Review - 15th Dec 2008There where a few stick spots rocky spots slippy spots and wet spots and they did very well.
In fact I noticed they clear the lugs very easy, I could tell by how much mud ended up the car and on the bonnet, and that was without wheel spinning, so was chuffed they dont clog up as easy. Gotta say Phils cleaned out well, lots of his mud flung onto on my car to Ste

Re: Im Getting Itchy Feet - Review - 15th Dec 2008Have to agree with Ste, both our tires performed admirably and seemed to clear quickly and easily. Mine are far better behaved offroad then the old kingpins with what seemed like virtually no wheelspin on the mud, rocks and gravelled sections even starting one of the lanes in 2wd wasnt an issue and that was muddy and leafy.
