rear speaker box

Postby jellybaby on Mon Dec 08, 2008 9:40 pm

has anybody out there with a SWB removed the rear seats and fitted some sort of speaker box using the seat mounts as fixing points. The reason i as is as the frontys off the road and moneys tight i'm listing the jobs i need to do the jobs i want to do and how to do them parts etc you get the idea. I'm thinking of trying to fit some sort of speaker box not a massive one just some 6"x9" or something half decent and a mounting for a new cb and a couple of aux power points i have a box design in mind but if anybody else has done it pictures please. Or if anybody has modded the original rear speaker housing picks too please may use them to house a cb extension speakers.

Nifty and Ryan have done similar. Just remember a speaker housing needs to be rigid, the stronger the better. The more energy that flexis the box or moves it in the car, the less is moving the cone. So really thick MDF, lots of cross bracing, maybe even fille/layer the box with fibreglass.

As for holding it in, why not remove the mounts and bolt it to the screw holes for the mounts?

would be sturdy just ideas at the mo got some mdf at 13mm i think. just a standard box with some internal cross bracing wouldn't need to be fancy or huge
