banter general discussions etc
by b19sin on Fri Nov 14, 2008 2:27 am
i have just spent 100 quid on having my windows done after being told it was a write off and it went to the garage on wednesday to have its wheel bearing done but i had a phone call saying that they were having trouble with it so it had to stay in over night. had a call on thursday saying i could fetch it BUT is not fixed they couldn't split the half so for the second time its not repairable. i think i mite have to give up with the fronty and let it go. if they cant do it iv got no chance, i really dont want to let it go as i have put a lot of money into it already with other parts (and i love it) but i cant see any other options HELP!!!!!

I sense an angle grinder moment coming on I believe Trugga had a similar problem recently with the bearing race welding itself to the stub axle, he ground it down as far as I remember. failing that heat will get it off, or better yet, another garage that knows about such things.

Yes that sounds like what happened to mine, we ( Tim Bumptj) came across the dead inner bearing while changing the ball joints. The inner bearing had in by the look of it welded its self to the drive shaft, we hammered and swore rather a lot, it didnt move, we heated it ( even though it was the one day this year it touched the 80's ) shock and unlock .. nothing, we didnt have a grinder or dremmel to hand, very careful use of these would have got it off, we just used a chisel and persevered in the end it came off, it is doable and the garage should have the tools do do the job. We would have got it off easy with either more intense heat or careful use of a grinder. Oh yer mime was the front, berinator kills the rear
