mot fail , smoke

just failed the mot on "exhaust emits an excessive level of metered smoke for a turbo charged engine" .... i recently changed oil (but not filter as its pretty inaccesable due to non standard engine fitted) but the fuel filter aint been changed either ! if i change the fuel filter will i see an improvement ??? and also which easily available diesel additives could i try ??? any tips for a rapid cure for this please ???

I put 2 tins of Wynns in 1/4 tank on an old Orion,drove 10 miles passed retest.
If you are changing your fuel filter fill the canister with neat Wynn`s & put the rest in the tank,that way you will get an "instant decoke",just make sure you are outside & the exhaust is not pointing at the nieghbours washing/open windows.

Kev try changing the air filter and get some Milers diesel plus then boot it around for a short while.

cheers lads , i'll give it a go ... bloody cars eh ? not as bad i imagined , failed on that and a side light .... grrr i had our lass at the back of the car light checking but didnt think about the front ones

by heck its complicated getting bits on the phone ... an air filter for a 2.3td fronty , a fuel filter for a 2.8td trooper , my local motor factors cringe when im servicing the car

do dvla and the mot station no its a 2.8

i only ask because i had a similar problem on the calibra when the engine was changed, and i had to inform dvla as the engine was pushing out a tad bit more power, and according to the tester it was trying to get the results from the 8v and not the 16v which was a bit different,

aye dvla know , i changed the engine size and number when i did the conversion, no problem as the 2.3 intercooled engine is a similar hp to the 2.8 non intercooled engine ! its just the insurance thats a pain , hey that 16v redtop ? hardest cam belt change ive ever done but they're a powerful engine in the calibra ! lovely car in a straight line ....

There isnt an easy way of getting to the side lights, you just need hands like a gynaecologist to change them

twas a job for the girlfreind so yeee haaa the 3rd mot ! all passed and so i came home and rang my insurance (sureterm direct) only to be told that i can't renew my insurance as the company (equity red star) have withdrawn buisness use from the policy .... they'll still cover the engine change but i cant use the car for windowcleaning so right now ive got troubles

i dont believe this ... no-one will insure the car for buisness use but ive been insured for the last 2 years ok and then for some unknown reason the car thats done 1900 miles since its conversion without an accident/breakdown/puncture etc is now uninsurable why ????
so what now ? walk to work with the ladders on my shoulder and bucket in hand with a rucksac on my back with my food , or sell the blooming thing ??? i love my car aint it amazing how a happy day can change just like that

Under a normal policy we can all drive to and from our place of work. If you have a window cleaning round can the miles in between the customers be classed as to and from your place of work. If you had an accident you are not working but on your way to work. Just a thought

aye or if i was to drop my gear off on a sunday , and travel to a freinds near by and then walk to my customers houses i'd be good too , or just walk the round , i mean i use the car to get there and store my food and flask in , its rare i move the car once parked up. its just so annoying as i have 20 odd years no claims and a clean licence , and the conversion would pass any test , it rhymes with baker what they are
