Please can anybody recommend a good rust neutralising agent for use on the chassis, etc.
I've got two SWB Sport A that I want to give some TLC.
The 2.8TD looks like it's been left in a field for about a year. Although solid, the chassis and suspension/steering components have surfice rust that needs sorting. I reckon to attack it with a wire brush, neutralise the rust and re-paint with Hammerite. Then give it a going over with wax oil.
The 2 litre petrol as been used for off-roading and left standing for 2 years. Half of Woodlands Pay and Play site came with the car. I need to somehow try and clean out the chassis box sections and pump some wax oil into it.
Many thanks for any forthcoming suggestion that may be a better solution or recommendation to any products to use.

Hammerite is a bit brittle when it dries and can flake off, I use waxoyle if you heat it you will make it more fluid to get into the box sections or use used engine oil for the inside of the box sections.

Thanks for the reply Drift.
Do you think waxoyle will do away with the need to rust neutralise and paint. Will waxoyle do the same protective job on the chassis and other components? I'm bit out of touch with using waxoyle, the last time I used it was on a motor was in 1983 when I added additional rustproofing to a new Sierra I bought.

There is a new type of waxoyle that has a rust inhibitor added so I would say yes.

But I would still treat any heavily rusted areas with specialist rust inhibitors.

Its best used on non moving components as its bitumen based I think so working/moving components may clog up, I would use other stuff on them.

Hi Peter. I did exactly as you suggested, attacked it with a wire brush and then painted with hammerite. I'm sure a follow up application of waxoyle would be beneficial as Drift says, I was planning to do it this year but time ran out. At least something is better than nothing before they start gritting. I believe waxoyle can be a pig to apply if its cold, a mate of mine reccomended sticking the drum in a bucket of warm water to help with the application. He also suggested getting the underside steam cleaned first and then applying waxoyle, sounds sensible, or would a thorough jet washing be enough, I don't know. Would also be interested to hear other members thoughts on this..
