Tail happy beasts aint they

Postby socko on Mon Oct 06, 2008 12:53 pm

I took my fronty out yestrday in the wet(not had her long)and bloody hell dont they like stepping out.

I was warned about it before I bought it but never thought it would wag its tail so easily,im used to driving high perfromance cars(mainly Imprezas)but I could never get one to do it as well as this

I will admit though it was brown trousers time the first time it did it

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...'Wow! What a ride!

I have to say Iv never had a problem with the back end sliding out. Tyre choice and pressures can be an important factor here.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

I have pretty new Enduro Runways on the rear, and they are scarey on wet roundabouts, especially if I have to brake. :o

I got cooper at's, 31x10.5x16 on my 3.2 and oddly it now has less grip than my worn colway at's. Must be the compound as the Colays wore very quickly.

I've found on other cars that if u use Michelins which are hard compound u can fish tail in the wet & in the dry, but if u use Goodyears which are soft compound they stick in the dry, stick in the wet, but as it just starts to rain n the road gets greasy u r all over the place. :D

Currently on 31x10.5x15 Kingpin MT. For a MT and a retread tyre they hold the road pretty well. Wear isnt so good though, mind you I do a fair bit off road with them and they are fairly noisy.

Best mixed tyre I ever had was my BF Goodrich AT's. Quiet and well mannered on road with great cornering ability due to the reinforced sidewalls and enough tread to get you through all but the gloopiest mud.

Best road biased tyre I had were pirelli scorpions. Excellent road manners and stuck like glue wet or dry.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!

Federal MS351AT. suprisingly good be it wet or dry and got a huge roasting off the other half for trying to spin the back end in a gravel car park, the tyres just dug in and she hit her head on the passenger window. Made things worse because I couldnt appologise for laughing.

I got Maxxis 31x10.5x15 Trepador's on mine and i can't really fault them in any weather.
I did have one moment on the way to Holymoorside at the W/End though, but i guess when you remove the back end of all it's weight this is gonna happen.
FUDDY MUCKER has the same tyres on a complete truck so i guess he would be a good comparison with my toy.
Cheers
Dan.
