Faulty coolant temperature Gauge

Hi all

Although having owned two frontera's over the past four years, i am new to the group. Two years ago i upgraded my mark A frontera with a mark B, since then i've had a variety of issues that ive been working through. My latest one is the Coolant temperature gauge that has never worked since i've owned the car and its about time i tried fixing it. The car seems to run fine (apart from in hot weather when the engine sometimes cut out when decelerating???), which indicates to me that the sensor itself seems to be working (or so i think, please correct me if im wrong). Ive had a quick look at the wiring on the back of the instrument panel and i cant see any obvious breaks in the board or wiring. Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed
