petrol smellas you may know i have just ut another engine in my fronty , a c20ne , over the past few days there as been a smell of petrol coming from the car , i have checked all the pipes , plus all the pipes that run underneath the car , it doesn,t seem to be losing petrol according to the gauge , but when i open the front door of the house i can smell petrol , i did notice when i was under the car that the pipes were shoing signs of corrosion but they wasn't wet , any ideas
Re: petrol smellPossibly a split or perrished pipe on the top of the fuel pump. I think this is a common fault, you'll need to drop your tank to check it out. Send Jellybaby a pm I think he.s done his twice. I'm sure he''ll give you some pointers

Re: petrol smelli renewed the pipes from the tank to the pipes attached to the chassie even made them longer so that if i droped the tank i would have more play. be carefull of the wireing attached to the pump its not that long. aoke the bolts in wd40 days before you drop the tank. i can't remember what size pipe off the top of my head. and get a hand if you can. also check the rubber seal round the filler cap mine has perrished so as a quick fix theres just a peice of flexi rubber put on top of the other seal
![]() top of tank closest to the center of the pump is the fuel supply out, next to that is the fuel return the other two with whe white plugs are breather pipes connected to the engine bay via a charcoal canister ![]() pipes connected to chassi check the joints on the tank too and where the filler and breathe join got a spare cap and a spare tank if you need it hope this is some help The only boundry is your imagination.

Re: petrol smellJust replaced the tiny section of rubber pipe forward of the filter today on my 2.0 Sport. Half way down chassis offside.
Easy job, - quite often goes, a known fault. Usually announces itself with a smell of petrol before it starts to eventually drip. Doubt if this was your problem (you probably know about this anyhow!) but always useful to mention for any newbies on site to the old things! Tone. ![]() 1996 2.0 Sport - owned since October 1998.
