NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!HI PEEPS, THE FRONTERA I JUST BOUGHT 2 WEEKS AGO WOULD NOT START, TOOK IT TO LOCAL GARAGE AND AFTER A LOT OF TRIAL AND ERROR, THE FAULT WAS TRACKED DOWN TO THE DIESEL FUEL PUMP NOT WORKING!!!!-HAVE BEEN QUOTED £2000 + VAT FOR A RECON ONE, BUT AFTER PAYING £1200 FOR THE WAGON I CAN NOT JUSTIFY THIS COST TO FIX IT--SO I AM LOOKING FOR ANY IDEAS OR ADVICE
Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!Hi mate, someone will come up with a solution for you, probably Lawrence, Smiffy or Bernie.
But I will slip a wee word to you first before they do, don't type in capitals as it is seen as shouting bud. Good luck with the pump. Regards, Keith.

Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!Hello mate, if it is the fuel pump then I'm afraid it is very expensive but not £2000 for a recon. I have seen them for about £600 for a recon then the fitting.
You could get a new one fitted for less than £2000 ![]() SIZE DOES MATTER!! MEMBER 1728 1996 2.8 SWB called VIPER Members Ride section for VIPER Comments on VIPER here GET YOUR CARTOON CAR HERE

Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!If you can get it to a diesel specialist they my recon and fit your old unit a lot cheaper, its still not a cheap fix but I reckon at the very most £1000, you could be lucky and get it done for a little less.
Try calling these guys for a quote or an email, they are very helpful and will give give you an idea of the price http://www.dieselbob.co.uk/injectionpumps.shtml Ste

Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!I concur.
Give diesel bob a call or see if you can find a local diesel specialist. There is also the option of trying to find one on a scrapper. I have a new pump that will be fitted to my 2.8 and will replace the old (still working) pump, but it is going to possibly be 6 months before that happens. I have located a local diesel specialist (In Redditch, Worcestershire) that can take a Trooper pump and swap over the Vauxhall immobiliser and fit and tune it - that's going to cost a couple of hundred £. Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!Thanks guys for your help, will try and get my thoughts together and decide what to do
Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!They are a good engine and car, the only problem is the pump, but once sorted it will be uprated and should never give any problems again.
One word though in the DTI never run out of fuel, the pumps hate that Ste

Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!hi A friend, yea fault codes said a faulty crank shaft sensor and this was replaced but made no difference?? just wondering if it could be an immoberliser problem as mechanics said that when the engine was turning fuel was reaching where it should--sorry i cant be more precise but i know nowt about mechanics.
Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!From that I would say its not the pump

Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!Agree with Drift on the pump,the fault could be anywhere on the sensor circuit,what we need here is a Nitromotor.
Paul will probably be our best bet on this,will point him in this direction when he comes online,in the meantime it might be handy to him if you could post the actual fault code number.Will also do some more looking myself.
Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!will try and get the fault code number and post it-thanks everyone
Re: NEW OWNER NEEDS HELP!!!Pumps are rare to fail unless abused, so….
Check the fuel relay, and the fuel cut off solenoid. One thing to note is your frontera is running an high pressure system, its not compatible with vegoil, vegoil will kill the pump , do you know the history? Just have to mention that to rule that out, but await your fault codes. http://www.crag-uk.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
