smoke from the fuel railwhen my fronty was off the road , i bought a volvo 850 to use till the fronty was repaired ,now i have a buyer for the volvo the problem is when i tried to start it there's smoke coming fron the fuel rail ,it was low on petrol so i put some in but it still wo,t start , it is turning over , and at one stage i thought i was gonna start , but no . any ideas guys
Re: smoke from the fuel railSounds like something shorting out somewhere. Possibly a loose injector wire or similar if its in the area of the fuel rail
Re: smoke from the fuel railthanks mate will check it out tommorrow
Re: smoke from the fuel railAny smells to go with the smoke? Different smoke has different smells ya see.
Re: smoke from the fuel railwell its got a slight petrol smell to it , not a strong smell , and the smoke is a grey colour
Re: smoke from the fuel railNot plastic or an electrical smell then?
Re: smoke from the fuel railno mate , its really got me foxed , i don,t want to spend any cash on it as i advertised it as spares or repair , on fleabay . the guys coming for it tommorrow , but in the ad i didn,t say it was running , still if the guy does'nt want it i will just have to put it down to expereince and readvertise it , i would like to know what it is though just in case the fronty has the same problem
Re: smoke from the fuel railCould it be a cloud of vapourised petrol from a cracked fuel line/fitting ??
Re: smoke from the fuel railwhen i looked earlier there was a plastic pipe that was sitting on the engine just below the injectors i thought it was just a breather pipe , as the one end didn't seem to go anywhere , i wonder if thats it
Re: smoke from the fuel railIt mat well be the answer to your problem,as if fuel is escaping the engine will be running lean, for starting from cold the engine needs a fuel rich mixture.Got to be worth a look I reckon if only for elimination purposes.
Re: smoke from the fuel railyep thats what was doing it , the bloke who bought it is a volvo spares / complete cars specialists , when he came to pick it up ,i showed him the pipe , and apparently it is a common fault with volvos , because the pipe sits on the engine it gets hot and as time goes by the pipe becomes brittle , thanks sir doris and A friend
Re: smoke from the fuel railWell done guys
