The thing that bugged me was when the mot guy said that even though I had over a week to go on my old ticket it was now void due to the current failed test

failedTruck failed mot today, flew through everything except no braking effort on rear left wheel. I soon sorted that by fitting a spare caliper I had from when I did an axle swop on the monterey. Forgot I had them, nice pair of calipers with new pads in all wrapped up in my shed

Re: failedMine never said that when I took mine in and he credited the 2 weeks when I passed second time, maybe because I let him fix the head light a week later

Re: failedI thought this was always the rule.
You can bring the vehicle in up to 4 weeks beforehand, and if it passes, you have 13 months until the MOT expires, but the downside is if it fails the MOT it cannot be driven until the fault has been rectified, as effectively it's been found to be un roadworthy. Mark
Re: failedYour test certificate is valid until the expiry date, and is a legal document. Even if your vehicle fails within a month of its renewal, it is still moted. The certificate is the proof. The database computer is updated with the result of the latest test, but does not invalid your original certificate. You still have up to the date on it to get your vehicle fixed and retested.
