Looking for advice: Scrap or repair my Frontera B

Been to Vx main agent & the 4wd actuator for your chassis number is :

Part # 0097182672 ..................... Actuator .................. £ 351.00 plus VAT = £ 412.43

They are a stock item,currently showing 6 available in UK central parts distribution .




Any body looking at this with a working EPC can you see if this part # is used on other Vx/Isuzu please.

This may sound daft or difficult but can this be changed for an old fashioned leaver system?
It is problems like this that is putting us off up grading to a B series.
Think we will get a 2.8

I cannot see why it cannot be repaired. I am afraid I would want a second opinion.

please clarify - electric connection opens port for vacuum to operate gear shift?
Therefor vacuum pipe or diaphragm/piston failure/siezure. or electrical connection or solenoid failure

Nigel,the A & B gearboxes are totally different,as are the front axles.So the quick answer is no.

As for testing individual parts of the actuator,that would be down to the posters mechanic,unfortunately being in Ireland he is a bit to far away for me to make a visit.

Has to be worth a go. Must speak to my mechanic.

Have heard a few people though on this forum saying that second hand and rebuilt units are not really and option with this part if my memory serves me well.

well found, everything can be repaired even riveted components.
With vintage machinery you have no choice!
therefore why not this unit,

Hello all

A little update

Been using the fronty as a spare vehicle when my other yoke needed a day or two in the garage (not exactly on a run of good luck with cars at the minute) so it hasn't got much attention/use bar a service & new brake discs/pads. Had been going well but I noticed a grinding sound get steadily worse over the course of a weeks driving (100mile round trip). The other car was with the mechanic so I just kept her lit hoping it would all go away . Just about got it home on the last day I used it. You can hear and feel the load grinding which I think at a guess is in the rear diff.

Don't know what repairing the diff would cost but if I include the 4wd actuator as well which I need, then I think I've had my fill of it and would say that I could be throwing good money after bad with it.

Do fronty B's they have any value scrap wise?

Be carefull not to get stuck in the trap of looking for any funny noises, I ofeten find if I have had prblem with a motor I tend to be overly sensitive to any noises that i dont reconise. I would check for silly stuff like a stone in the disc, sticking cylinders ect. Had to replace both rear calipers on mine as they were intermitantly sticking making noise and smoke.

Been mulling this over over the past few weeks. Would need to pay 3-4 grand for a replacement 4wd which I need for towing a heavy enough boat. For something I wouldn't be using every day it's just too much money to be sitting in a yard most of the week, so I'm gonna dig a bit further and root cause what I'm looking it. Mechanic thinks it's the gearbox. Hope so cause my motor actuator is buggered so would get one with a replacement box rather than have to get a diff and a motor separately. I'll keep youse posted
