Beginners Green Lane Trip – Saturday 25th October 2008Beginners Green Lane Trip - Saturday 25th October 2008 - North Wales
If you are relatively new to this forum and have not yet been laning, perhaps you would like to be lead by myself, an experienced laner and researcher/organiser of trips, around the stunning north Wales countryside. The route we will travel will be approximately 40 miles long, although 70% of it will be off-tarmac. These lanes have been proven to be suitable for standard Frontera’s (on standard tyres and suspension set ups), and while MT or AT tyres are not necessarily necessary (!!), a good depth of tread would be preferable.. Some of the lanes we will be driving you may have heard of in some of the FOG members reports; the Wayfarer, White Stones and depending on the conditions on the day, the Corwen Carwash. Following the Green Lane Associations' guidelines, the group size will not exceed 4 vehicles, so with my self leading, that leaves 3 places available. It will be a full day, starting at around 10am and finishing at about 6pm. There will be plenty of stops for photos/video and of course coffee breaks. This trip is designated for “beginners”. You will not get any formal training, but advice will be offered when we come across different types of terrain; river fording, hill ascent and decent, side slopes etc. You wont need any specialist equipment (although I will carry some, just in case), all you will need is a tank full of fuel, a sense of adventure and a sense of humour. There will be no cost to take part, other than your own fuel/food expenses I expect there to be a lot of interest in this Laning Day, so names will be accepted on a first come first served basis, with any additional names going onto a reserve list. (There will probably be a spare seat in my Frontera should anyone not fancy taking their pride on joy “off road”) Places available on a first come first served basis. Add your name (and comments) below. Re: Beginners Green Lane Trip – Saturday 25th October 2008The concept of this (and other "beginners" trips) is to give new members who have not been green laning before, the opportunity to experience their vehicles abilities on non-tarmac roads on known sustainable routes.
Diving at a pace to suit a novice (who most likely would be worried of damaging their vehicle) they would get to experience different terrain and be offered advice on how to best tackle various sections. Added to the beautiful Welsh countryside (in this instance) should add up to a memorable day out for an individual or family. It is also an opportunity to instil laning etiquette, and the responsibilities we have as 4x4 drivers in the countryside. Lawrence
