sump plug ,hi all , i have now got my engine ready to go back in , but i have hit on a small problem , when i tightened up the sump plug it just wouldn,t tighten , so i tried it with the washer off and it tightened up ,so what i have done ios buy another plug but a 14mm ford plug , they are a bit longer , and it tightened up a treat , what i want to know is would there be enough clearence in the sump ,, its a c20ne engine , any ideas
Re: sump plug ,How much longer? its a safe bet looking at the sump, how deep it is and from that how deep the inards are. As long as its smaller you should be ok.
From memmory, I am surprised that the sump is M14, though it was bigger. Fronty no.4, pimp mobile Treg 3.2 LWB lifted 2.5"
Fronty no.5 2.8 swb hd coils +2" 31"machos.
Re: sump plug ,Assuming the sump is fitted to the engine, put a socket on the crankshaft nut & turn it over a couple of times by hand.
That way you will feel/hear if anything touches.
Re: sump plug ,This is what came in the spares package to my 2.0 Sport:
![]() Part number (on the bag) 1#94310917 7-02-215 GR.4.105 M20x12 with a 24mm A/F hex head Curiously, EPC lists the "plug, oil drain" as 90409376 6-52-475 I do not know if my spare is the correct size. Lawrence
Re: sump plug ,That looks about right Lawrence.
I brought a new one a few weeks back, cost me a whole £2.25
Re: sump plug ,"Engine Oil Fill" looks like the filler forthe gearbox
All the B`s & the 2.8 tdi are known to be M 14
Re: sump plug ,I bow to the A friend's knowledge on this one... indeed, EPC advises that the plug in my picture above is for the "rear transfer casing" for the C20NE, X20SE, C24NE, 2.3TD, X22XE and 2.5TD variants.
Sorry for any confusion. Lawrence
