Re: Internet explorer helpIf it is IE shutting down completely upon accessing a new page and then having to be restarted you probably have IE7 and an older version of JAVA installed.
Download IE7 installation files. Remove IE7, remove all versions of Java up to the latest version number (all through Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs). Re-install and update IE7. It is a common problem with no real fix. This will often happen if installing EPC or the electronic manuals after an updated version of JAVA has been installed (fo some reason they force J2.0 onto the machine). If you have done this just uninstall J2.x from the machine and everything is fixed '99 3.2V6 Auto Limited.
Some day it will be how I want it to be...
Re: Internet explorer helpHi Graeme
I had a similar problem with IE 7 I ended up installing Mozilla (Firefox) its free. Open up IE7 and search for Mozilla (Firfox) and download the program, during Mozilla installation it will ask if you want Mozilla to be your default browsers select yes. IE7 will remain on your system giving you the opportunity to use it if you wish. Martin

Re: Internet explorer helpJust to follow on about comp probs.
i have a new comp only 4 months old, had norton on when it came as 60 day trial, but things being tight could not afford to pay for the upgrade, so download AVG free version. number 8.0 i believe it was. well just just spent 3 hours trying to get comp to start up, and had to start in safe mode with the intention of removing programmes one by one to find which was causeing the problem. And would you know it, the first programme i removed, was AVG and all is tip top again. i must say, while using windows XP, i never had a prob, but with windows vista, i would advise staying away from such programme. so going to pay the 40 quid or so to get protected, as everything was tip top while using it. sean
Re: Internet explorer helpI use the paid version of AVG before that I used the free version with Vista, I do believe recently there has been an issue with the new AVG 8 upgrade and Vista, this is a problem on the AVG side of things and is supposed to be being worked on to be resolved in the very near future

Re: Internet explorer helpThere is a problem with the latest update patch from AVG and Vista as has been said. I am seeing one of the techs from Grisoft this weekend so will ask them when the fix will be released and update for people, as getting AVG for free is actually a lot better for yur PC than paying for Norton which will make your machine run like a dog

Re: Internet explorer helpI couldnt agree more about Norton
Make sure you fully delete Norton from your systems C drive it tends to hang around a bit Ste

Re: Internet explorer helpI personally don't understand why people rave on about Norton .........it's got to be the most intrusive piece of software that was ever produced
it's prized Kak ...and quite frankly it's not even that much cop at stopping any bugs and viruses anyway the free version of AVG is shed loads better
Re: Internet explorer helpDo you know if the older version of AVG free, has any issues, and what version would you maybe suggest i try. i dont mind trying as i know what the fault will be if it happens again.
i just boot up in safe mode and remove. Just with it being a brand new pc, i dont want to be unprotected, whic i am now. and to add to what has been said, i prefer AVG by far. have always used it over the years. sean
