With wheel removed and axle stand under front chassis, remove big castleated nut. Then using a trolley jack under the bolt, jack up pretty high (dont relax the torsions, they are your friend here). Get a standard ball joint splitter (the hammer in version), you may need to widen it by hammering over a bar or grinding a lead in to allow the ball joint to do it.
Hammer in the ball joint separator as hard as you can (a sawn off sledge here can help). When its in as far as it will and your sure its well embeded check the axle stand will catch the car and drop the jack quickish.
With the arm up a few inches the ball joints body was parallel to the axle carrier, as the arm articulates the body of the ball joint needs to rotate too, but cant because the splitter is in between the two. It simply pulled the ball joint out with a pop (okay the first actually split the splitter
End result, no swear box used, no heat, no beating required.
Just the regular ball ache or getting around everything to remove and replace the thing I dont have a shortcut for.
Shame really, wanted to jase's face when I took a burner to his car
