banter general discussions etc

Just a quick one to gauge opinions.
I know the legal standpoint but just wondering what the personal thoughts are.
Ive taken a 2.2 out of my fronty and replaced it with a 2.0 and it also has an LPG conversion which isnt shown on the V5 (are they usually??)
I'm thinking about notifying the DVLA of the 2 changes so the V5 matches the car. As far as insurance goes, its still insured as a 2.2 because it was more to declare the engine change! Even though its a smaller engine.
If its on the V5, but a change from what it started life as, does it still count as a "modification"?
Not sure if the tax would be any cheaper for it being 2.0 and LPG...??

I'm sure it will be classed as a mod as it is different than the original spec. As far as the lpg goes I think the insurers need to see the proper instalation certificate before issueing cover.

thanks WW, my insurance were ok with the LPG conversion as it was fitted before i owned it and a good few years ago. Not sure at what point they draw the line but they weren't too bothered that i didnt have certificate.

There is a section for fuel type...........is yours LPG only or dual fuel
If LPG only this will affect the emissions which in turn affect road fund licence cost
Any deviation from manufacturers specification is a modification
You are not insured as the vehicle does not match your declared specification
Think on.if you have an accident that involves the police they will soon sort the facts out,if you hurt somebody you will be paying for the rest of your life, after you come out of prison that is.

I have often wondered where you stand if you buy a car that has had an engine transplant, but if you are not tech minded and are unaware of it can you be held accountable in the event of an accident.

Seems abit unfair on the little old lady that buys a previously modded car. I bought a 1.0l sj which was still registered as such but had a 1.6 twin cam fiat engine in, this was obvious (and part of the reason I bought it ) but alot of engines show no outwardly differances.
