It must be coming from somewhere!!!

Hi Guys,
I have a question for you all which is now starting to bug me somewhat... :axe: :axe:
Having got the toy looking something like how i want it i have found an oil leak coming from under the engine bay, my initial thoughts were that it was coming from the sump gasket...Wrong 'cos iv'e had that replaced and the drip is still there. I have removed and cleared all the gunk out of the oil breather pipe and put it back together again last night but the leak is still there. :? :?
Does anyone have any ideas where it might be coming from, from underneath it appears to be coming down the back of the sump where the little rectangular block attaches to the main sump.
Has anyone else had this happen and found out what it is ? does anyone have suggestions for where to look next to try to locate it ? is it a common problem on the A series SWB ?
Although it is only dropping a few drips each evening, after the toy has been run it is now becomming annoying and i want to get it fixed so the wife can get off my case about the oil on the drive.
Thanks in advance for your help with this one.
Dan.

Sounds as if it could be the rear crankshaft seal. As the engine heats up the oil gets thinner and easily finds weak spots.
The only way to replace this is by removing the gearbox unfortunately. Just make sure you have definately counted out other causes before going this way incase it is something else, cos its a farely big job.
Regards, Keith.

hmmm 2.0 sport ,,,,,,if you have lifting gear its a lot simpler to pull the engine, rather then messing around underneath with propshafts and suchlike, once the engine is out its just a case of removing the clutch and flywheel, digging out the seal and fitting new one refit the flywheel and clutch( remembering to line it up).......................................................
Now this is just advice, but over the years I have done a fair few of these,Ive always found it better to use seals from the main dealers as they fit a lot better and last a lot longer too :D

All of the above is correct and if you need to replace the seal change the clutch while your there saves a hell of a lot of grief in the future.

Check the very back of the rocker cover as these always leak there, though it does sound more like the crank seal.
