turboWhat governs the turbo cutting in and out, is it the amount of suck from the engine? Just wondered if there was a way of getting a turbo to cut in earlier so as to get a bit of extra grunt low down in the revs.

Re: turboIts the amount of gas coming out of the exhaust manifold. As it hits a threshold it spins up. You can give it a bigger opening in front of the blades to allow air to be sucked in better, maybe make the airbox bigger after the filter to allow it to spin up easier. About the only two I know that help the turbo spin into life quicker.
Of course giving the intercooler a clean may help. Fronty no.4, pimp mobile Treg 3.2 LWB lifted 2.5"

Re: turboA bigger intercooler will help and a fuel pump tweak, upping the boost can give more pressure but that could be at the expense of the engine wearing quicker.
To be honest the stock intake feeds more than enough air for the turbo, is getting the air cooler after its been through the turbo that gives the greatest gains, plus having the air travel the shortest distance will all help to reduce lag and increase performance. Ste

Re: turboI find that the point that it cuts in is quite late in what is quite a short rev range and when towing with all the hills round here having it cut in earlier would be a benifit. How do you go about cleaning the inter-cooler?

Re: turboTake it off and swill it with paraffin then make sure its bone dry and refit, rad has to come out first though, its very easy to do.
The 2.8 turbo usually kicks in around 1800 to 2000 revs Ste

Re: turboGive all your hoses a check and filter also that intercooler clean, check the hoses from the intercooler and the short fat one at the top of the engine near the 2.8 badge, mine was leaking and I lost boost and power, kicks in sweet now as I used a silicone hose

Re: turboCould be worth doing the none turbo bits as well like filters, no good having lots of air if hasnt got the fuel etc to run it with.

Re: turboDid fuel and air filter just after buying. Just bought some parafin so will give it a swill out at the weekend. All may well be fine and I think the engine runs as sweet as a nut but as I haven't driven a 2.8 before I have no comparison. You know what its like, you can never have enough grunt

Re: turboMight be worth when you get the chance giving the brakes a once over, check for sticky pistons and sliders, makes all the difference if one is sticking.

Re: turboThe 2.8 usually has enough for most. You can always swap to a 3.2 if your greedy.

Re: turboTis a shame it just sits there. Before the sensor issue I had it up for £1500ono, then dropped to £800, but now I would take £500ish. Sorry mods, this isn't supposed to be a car advert
