Re: Beginners and experienced Greenlanes Longmynd 28th JuneBad news, although not quite metal snapping tomfoolery another problem has arisen!
The diff I got is from a 97' 2.2 Mine is obviously a 95' At some point which we think was when they did the facelift (96' on) they changed the driveshafts from a 28mm shaft with 26 splines to a 26mm shaft with 33 splines. As a result my driveshafts wont fit the new diff. A workaround has been suggested which is swap the halfshafts from my old diff to the new diff. Hopefully this will work providing they arent damaged in any way. So Im praying its just the pinion gear that has gone. This took a 1/2 hour long phonecall to a mate of mine in the local VX garage to find out and discuss a workaround and a couple of calls to Paw4x4 (Paul there is very helpful and has an Ebay shop specialising in Fronteras) who I got the diff from suggested swapping the halfshafts. Fingers crossed again eh. Anyway, looks like Im back on the provisional list again

Re: Beginners and experienced Greenlanes Longmynd 28th JuneI think you may be lucky, the shafts are different lengths and matt going the other way had shafts too short to engage. May be worth a pm to nifty to ask an opinio n as he spent more than an hour or two head scratching on that one.

Re: Beginners and experienced Greenlanes Longmynd 28th JuneJust got home with the old girl, all is well, hubs are clicking into engagement, all 4 wheels are now doing what they are supposed to be doing. Its a go for saturday folks!
to share with you what happened, the halfshafts were swapped from my old diff to the new one as it was the pinion gear that had snapped on the old diff. thankfully the halfshafts were in good order. Manual hubs next me thinks.
Re: Beginners and experienced Greenlanes Longmynd 28th JuneHi guys, could I ask a favour of you please?
Ive just read on GRAG that there has been a lot of off piste damage in recent weeks at the Wayfarer summit and some surrounding areas. This damage by all accounts is quite bad even by the summit standards, those of you who have been will know what Im talking about eg The Bomb Hole. I am hoping to pop over to the Wayfarer in the evening if all goes well with the MOT this week, but if I dont make it could you take some pictures of the damage for me to help get something sorted. The police have been informed but at this time no one has pictures, you may see the odd police vehicle out and about on the lanes in that area, they are friendly enough and like a chat and a bit of banter. Cheers guys and fingers crossed I might see you up there Ste

Re: Beginners and experienced Greenlanes Longmynd 28th JuneHey Drift,
if you do make it in the evening bring them sunglasses if they are still available and i'll take them off your hands for you. If not i'll pay you next week if they are still up for sale. If you have a free evening next week i might arrange to collect from you as i'm only in Chester and would love to start meeting other members in the area. Cheers.
