2.8 fronty

hi boys & girls
i have had that much trouble with ny 2.3 td (its been in & out of the garage for months) & cannot find a good low milage engine to refit,do you think i should just forget it & buy a 2.8 lwb,what are the pro's & cons because i really cant afford to keep paying out as we live in the sticks we need 2 cars,are the 2.8s really that reliable or do i look at another 4*4 (i dont want to as i love the frontera i really do)...........help needed as me frontys been in dock for nearly 3 months all bar a week

All depends how is been looked after, Ive seen a few cracking 2.8's but they are all around £1400 and you may need to travel.

Like all cars again just depends if its been loved and had frequent oil changes, thats the main thing with the 2.8

i dont mind the travel etc or around the 1400 pounds mark,but i payed 1000 cash for mine,i knew i wouldnt get it back but i wanted a good clean exterior for work (dont wanna pull up at someones house with a bag of rust ) & i didnt want something in & out of the garage,but thats what i got lol.my own fault,you know what its like,nice fellow (so i thought) looked trustworthy etc same old story,nevermind thats life.what faults do you look out for with the 2.8???? & is the insurance group alot higher as im being bit on that 2

Think they are group 10 insurance.

The main weakness can be the turbo after 120k but if the car is not getting hammered off rroad that shouldnt be to much of a problem

Mines got well over the 148k mark ...gets off-roaded reasonably regular ...my turbo is rock solid (no play in the central shaft at all)

i have to look around,turbo aint a major bill is it lol cant be no worse than im getting for going nowhere 2.6 it is me thinks

You can get second hand turbos between £50 and £130 or new from china £300 or recon about £300
