Oh well!Well it looks like the fronty is sold so I am using the monty as my work vehicle at the mo. Didn't realy want to sell the fronty as it suits me better for work but had no takers on the monty. The only plus is having all that power

Re: Oh well!Well I have a short list now of possible suspects, SWB 3.1 trooper, SWB 2.8 or 2.2dti fronty or even a 2.7td maverick but the last one is only in there because they are so cheap, anyone know if they are ok or not, pig ugly but function is more important to me.

Re: Oh well!depends on how much interior space you need ........think i'd go for the 3.1 shorty trooper
Re: Oh well!3.1 is top of the list at the mo, just not sure how thirstier it is over the 2.8 swb. Guys on itoc seem to get 25-30 for the troop which is ok. Depends how expensive diesels gonna get

Re: Oh well!2.8tdi fronty should give you a mid 30's return
Re: Oh well! The 3.1 is a bit thirstier as its a bigger bore and the Trooper is heavier so it conspires against it in the fuel stakes.
With my lift and 32" muds I get about 415 ish miles from a tank full, it would be vastley better with normal tyres on Ste

Re: Oh well! What does that work out in MPG Ste? I realy need to go back to a pick up but need to use the vehicle as a dog and people carrier too, can't afford a double cab which brings me back to car and trailer. I have found the swb monty ideal for reversing in tight spaces so would rather stick with swb and if the 2.8 swb fronty gets over 30 mpg that may sway it over 3.1 troop, BUT troops are a bit more comfy and being 6'5" I do like my space. What reg did the frontys have coils on the back?

Re: Oh well!Dunno , maths aint my strong point
The coils came in from 95 all original 2.8's are on coils. I preffer the lwb better for reversing rather than my old sport as the sport has a very wide A pilla that blocks you view big time. The lwb is even better now reversing as Ive removed the spare wheel, I dont run a spare at all, with muds on its a bit less likely to get a punture on road but I carry a couple of tins of tyre weld and Im in the AA I ( If I remember) carry a spare when offroad though.
