So I had a scare when I spotted a semi dislocated spring on my SWB last week . I had a little air where a part had been changed since my last visit, took her to work, lifted the rear with a forklift and could remove both springs without any real force, so any large air could lead to springs dropping from the axles Spring reatianer time methinks, then some dislocation cones to keep them where i want. The Mk1 retainer, take a 180mm long peice of 6mm flat, bend both ends to encompass a 150mm spring. Drill center 12mm, use 10mm bolt and washers to secure. Would like to have a looky at a Landy with something similar, as you can see the spring varies in height from the axle as you move around the coil (well it is a spring) just need to be sure it wont work loose with bouncing. There is enough lateral retention to make sure as long as the flat stays there the spring cant slide out either.

I'll have to post a pic of what Specialist Leisure came up with to retain my rear coils. Alex has discovered an important issue here. If you have lifted the rear of an A Series Frontera by using longer/stiffer coils AND changed the shock absorbers for longer reach items, there is a strong possibility of loosing a coil spring when "getting air", or less dramatically, by grounding out over a ramp. Articulation is not generally enough to release the preasure on a coil, but get both rear wheels away from the body at the same time... does not bear thinking about landing after air with no coils in place. Sorry... rabbited on a bit there Lawrence

The old fashioned method was a leather check strap, between the chassis & axle.

Good work using the kiss theory On the ‘B’ lwb it was a different matter, in the end I had to use spring compressor to get the N/S/R spring in when administering the lift. (both shocks disconnected) However I estimated losing some of the length over time so used some HD Cable ties as retainers.

Arrrrrrr the old ‘which way up’ routine.. Now you have mentioned it, you had better bang some more in for Sunday especially if you are doing the pheasant steps……

Just simple hole in the retainer (12mm) big washers top and bot, spring washer on top and nyloc nut underneath. Cant flex it, given it a tap with tapometer, didnt budge. Oly time will tell if Mk2 is required, ten minutes work too, would be five if you could get the bolt to go up through the axle mount but it wasnt that fiddly.

Just to comment on Notro's comment, I agree and won bother doing the same deal on the V6 as I just cant see them coming out as they were a pig to put in.
Its reminded me to sort out a spacer for the bump stops, more tinkering.
