We need fuel, air, compression and a spark, all at the right time. (induction, compression power and exhaust), If we had all that it would run.

Fault finding needs to be logical and systematic, start from the basics.

Your probably frustrated with it, so its best to have a fresh look at it tomorrow with a fresh pair of eyes.

So far you have dismissed a fuel problem, (air petrol lpg)
your happy with the wiring and all the connectors and relays,
your satisfied that there is a spark,
you have discounted a mechanical failure
or foreign object damage
and haven’t tried a compression or leak down test

However something above isn’t working or is working but outside of specification or ells it would run ok.

Ask your self this, when was it last running ok, (not just a tick over)
What have you done since then?

Thanks for all the reply folk. Much appreciated.

Right, got it running eventually today, after having to cup my hands over the snorkle pipe again. I have also checked and double checked wiring, spark, fuel etc. all ok. Not yet checked compression. And still won't run of LPG.

But took another couple of videos

Check these out.

1. This video shows me gently pressing the throttle and gradualy raising the revs upto the limiter and then dropping them off. Check out at around 29 seconds, at this point I slam the throttle to the floor and watch as the revs won't go any heigher than 2500 rmp.

2. This one shows it ticking over quite smoothly with no problems, until I pull the throttle.

Still pullling me hair out, surely if it was down on compression it would'nt tick over so smooth or rev to the limiter. So I think even without checking that It can possibly be ruled out.

the last time i came across this problem it turned out to be the rotor arm. i dont no if your model has a balist resistor built in to the arm. same thing it was ticking over in the drive and the next thing it cut out and would not start but when it did it sounded as if the timing was out no power and a hesitant to tick over this was on a VW and not a vauxhall but its worth a try ... hope you get it sorted soon good luck :twisted: :twisted:

Thanks for the input guy.

It's totally P*ssing me off now.

I have tried everything, changed nearly all the usual parts with ones from FUDDY MUCKEr to which I know work fine.

The only thing that has just grabbed my attention is the blocked cat. The reason I say that is the cat has always had a rattle since owning it, and it's a coincidence that it did it for after the first time I moved the car with the engine running out of my drive which just happens to have a slope on it. Maybe moving it out of the drive, to a level surface has dislodged the cat causing a blockage.

Dont suppose it will hurt to check.

Another thing that has come to my attention today is the LPG system. When I brought the car it come with quite a comprehensive file of receipts for things such as new brake pads, work on the calipers, regular services, new battery etc, even one for a new set of windscreen wipers fitted by a back street garage. The only thing I haven't got any form of paper work or reciepts for is the LPG System. Now if that was me, and i guarentee most of you members out there had paid in excess of £1000 to have a system fitted, surley you would wont to keep the documentation just for resale value.

Then on closer inspection of the lpg system I have found other things that you would'nt expect from professional LPG installer, such as, wires going to the coil that have had the plastic stripped off and a wire wrapped around and soldered then covered in insulation tape. Also took the service cover off the tank and found the same type of shoddy wiring there.

Me thinks this is or has been a diy or a back hander job.

I'll give it a few more days of fiddling and messing around then the bloody thing will be broken up for spares :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Another thing that sprung to mind is when I went a fetched the car. Would'nt start on petrol but the guy said the tank was empty, but he did eventually manage to start it on LPG, even though it was doing what it is doing now on petrol. I just put it down to it been a bit damp with it standing for so long and also cos it had been started on LPG from cold. Ironically when i got it home it run like c*rap for a few days, checked and cleaned dizzy, plugs, air filter etc. and it has run fine on LPG since. Never had petrol into until Sunday night when symtoms started.

personally jase ...i'd get it (the LPG system) checked out by a specialist especially if theres no paperwork and the wiring is somewhat iffy :shock:

a good soldered joint is desirable, heat shrink over the soldered joint is best practice, however the reality can mean insulation tape is used in some cases, however self amalgamating tape is more appropriate if heat shrink isn’t used.
