anybody have any views on flushing oil ?. need to change engine oil but was wondering whether it would be advantageous to use flushing oil first.. previous car a renault, manufacturer said not to use it under any circumstances.

For an older car with little or no history, personally I wouldn't flush, simply because the deposits in the engine can actually plug holes/gaps around seals etc, but I am fastidious about changing my oil every 3k or three months, with a filter change every other oil change, so it keeps it pretty tip top.

This is just my opinion, I know some guys prefer the flush

don’t bother with flushing, it can create more problems than it solves, unless you have a specific reason to use it, Ie if you took the rocker off and found tar and varnish, which years ago on the old spec oil was possible.
Today if I saw that, id be reluctant to change the oil for fear of upsetting it lol.

But seriously if you want to treat it, change the oil, run till worm, change again, and change oil filter, then set your self an oil and filter schedule to suit your needs, I change oil every 3 month, filter every 6 months with an oil change.

drop the old oil and change filters, fill with a cheap oil and run for 20 mins.
then drop this oil and replace with good oil.
you may be suprised how much more crap comes out.

my fronty a 94 sport , had no oil pressure , i took it to my local garage so he could have a look , he said i needed a recon engine because the oil pump had gone , etc. anyway i took it to another garage and all they did was flush the engine , replaced the oil filter and now the pressure is back up and its running like a goodun ,he said flush the engine at least once a year .to get rid of all the sludge . so from now on thats what i will be doing from now on
