Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverThe safari would look a damn sight better if they dumped those ridiculous looking hub covers.I've seen them on the Tata pick-ups too.

Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverThis has been in the offing for a while, though look for LR and Jag to move abroad fairly quickly afterwardsas Ford are selling the names, factories and all intelectual and physical properties associated with them, which does not include the land which all LR and Jag property sits on

Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverMy uncle has always been a snob about his JAGUAR, I wonder what he is going to think of them now?
Re: tata buy jaguar & land roveri'm interested to hear what the Land rover fraternity are going to think
perhaps they won't be quite so toffee-nosed towards our frontera's ..

Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverAs Rick says, they have bought it to pillage it and dump it.
We would probably do the same in their shoes. The damage to the tin fab shops that supported Rover will deepen, its a very sorry day for the UK industry base. They were in very deep with Ford some while back, now with this under their belt the sub £2000 car could be on the Horizon. They reckon it will be nearly a decade until they have fulfilled the expanding Indian market to an extent they will export to the UK, but will give the big names a big scare into budget markets. All the Indian suppliers we deal with nudge and grin, "Its the second coming of the Empire you know. Only were in charge now" Strange how History turns round isnt it? Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverI know mate, but as they said, they will sell every one they make for nearly a decade into the Asia central market. by that time they will have been able to get the car through the more stringent safety demands in the none Asian markets.

Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverROADS? WHERE WERE GOING WE DON'T NEED ROADS!!
Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverGoogle TATA you will be impressed at the list of companies they own, many well known names too.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tata_Group They have never had a strike at any of their factories either in 40 odd years . The deal with ford had a commitment to the current infrastructure for five years and a substantial investment into the pension fund, though this is not to say in five years things will change, but for the short term its a good move for the work force. Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverI work in the automotive industry (Primarily 4x4) and heard about this last year.
A couple of things to mention is that they have agreed to purchase Ford engines for the next 4 - 5 years. Another thing is that they don't appear to want to close facilities and ship production to India (Unlike when the Chinese bought Rover!!). One little worry though, is, how will the fact that an Indian company owning British marque will affect sales!! But I don''t think it is good for British industry all the same. Just my thoughts. Huw. Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverYour all missing the point here.......
If you need a new part for you Land Rover, you be able to pop down to your local Indian corner shop, have a look on the shelf, in between the bread and the "My Mums" lemonade , find the part, and purchase it, 8 til Late, even on Bank Holidays, Sundays and Christmas day. How much stick do you think Land Rover owners are going to get about this !!!!!!
Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverTa Ta also own British steel and the Ta Ta 4x4s are respected for there reliability and off road performance
So maybe the issue of build quality that has destroyed LR,s reputation will be sorted out. Talking to Indian friends I am told the Indians only buy things that work, do the job and are easily fixable so maybe there will be a return to "proper" Land Rovers What happens, happens. What doesn't happen is not meant to

Re: tata buy jaguar & land roverI think that the Tata Safari looks great from the front..
It's butt ugly from the side though.. And that little read jellybean has only ONE thing going for it which would make me buy it over a Fiesta (and I hate Fiesta's) is that the jellybean is REAR WHEEL DRIVE!! I think if Tata want the Safari to sell they need to fix the side view of it considerably. And good on em.. let em by LR & Jag.. both overpriced and useless IMHO. Just luxury cars which have no real place on the planet. I dare say it won't change LR or Jag that much tho cos they'll try to keep the brands as they are. Will be interesting to see.
