engine warning light

we had a tread going on this subject but have been on holiday and cannot trace it on the new format.

breifly our warning light comes on occasionally, havent noticed a loss of power, and when on a touch on the accellerator causes it to go off. it also comes on when vehicle comes to rest at say traffic lights or road junction etc.

the varoius suggestions were get a OBD2 scanner and read code to see cause.

ok done that but where does the scanner plug into??

I cant find it.
the vehicle is a 2.2 dti Y reg

Soiunds like the MAF the socket should be behind the coin holder on the dash.

rescued all the trolly colns and the tray came out with a connector attached, thanks,

connected reader, when along with the manual and it read "no codes" which is supposed to mean no fault but i still have the ligfht on intermittantly.
we did the test after doing a run to the shops and back and the light was flickering on then

any ideas where we go next pse?

using the eobd 2 scaner it might not be giving you a correct reading as eobd only works on petrol vechicle s from 2000 on and they only implmented diesels from 2003 on . it sounds like your eobd scaner hasnt gone into the system correctly . i wouldnt guess at anything .

Just to throw a spanner in the works, The ecu management light, could these things be over sensitive, Mine has come on now and again since i had my truck over year and half now, with no loss off power, no change to the drive of the truck, on for about 10 seconds or so then goes out, and i dont see it again for a month or two.

Or is there some real problem i should also be looking for.

it might not be a major problem but for it to come on there must be a intermitant problem there only problem you might have is if is over feuling and you have a cat then it could burn your cat out but with out knowing the fault code be hard to determin weather its serius or not

Fixes in by cost.

1) EGR Clean with carb cleaner. Cost Fiverish
2) Vacum pipes replace all you can find. Cost aprox £15 for the pipe and an hour to do 1 spanner job cos I did mine.
3) MAF, but this is usually the one that puts it into limp home mode when acelerating hard. £90ish if you fit it your self.

Try in that order, cos if they havent been done they will need it soon
