Road Tax Costs Advice Needed

Hi All, I am about to buy a 51 plate 2.2 TDi Fronty, I was told today to find out how much road tax was on it because friends of mine said I may have to pay nearly a grand, so after I picked myself up off the floor, wiped the sweat off my brow and stopped crying, I thought I would ask some of the knowledgable Fronty owners on here, so is this true or is it only for brand new vehicles. I think a vehicle that age will fall into a tax band with a sliding scale, just need to find out what tax band it is. I'm sure a link to a dvla site will be added by someone in the know.

here you go... clicky it seems to based on emissions - but the most it says is £210 def not a grand

If you look on the parkers car reveiw guide it has the 2.2 in band F which is £210 for 12 months but from 2009 it rises to £415. Not quite £1000 but still a bl**dy nuff.

Reeco, a 2.2dti has emmisions of 245 gkm and at a 51 plate puts it in band F which will be £210 for 12 months or £115 for 6 months. If it was registered before march 2001 then it would be £180 for 12 months. only vehicles registered after march 06 and falling into band G would be £400 for 12 months. Brand new "Gas Guzzlers" will be liable for the showroom tax of about £700

Bobbins - does a 51 plate not mean it was registered aug 2001 onwards? I know I'm a girl but I'm sure thats right , so it has to be the more expensive option unfortunatly
