Postby stemon on Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:42 am

hi guys i could burn my frontera at the min ,

in the past month ive done

Headgasket as it blew
gearbox,
crankshaft oil seal (rear)
2x clutches (in a month! ???)
slave cylinder
idle valve died
Fuel pump relay was breaking down
Exhaust fell off
aux belt tensioner got very noisy so had to change
Rear door (tailgate) fell off (hinge broke)

and now cambelt tensioner dropped its bearings and come through the belt cover
maybe bent valves? i hope this engine clears well like the c20ne (mine is x20se)

when is enough enough ? never had so many problems in a month on 1 car , i do mild off roading but only on weekends.

rant over i feel better now :) lol

I know what you mean, as I seemed to spend a fortune on mine last year, but somehow, it all seems worthwile.

Steering idler pivot x2
Front wheel bearings x lots
Frake disks all round + another one on the front
Upper control arm bushes
Auxillary belt idler pulley x2
Turbo charger
clutch x2
Engine !!!

Still I do like my truck and having spent a shed load on it, I know it's reliability is returning.

Oh dear... dare I post on this thread and tempt fate?

Oh who cares...

The last month alone:

1 x 50 Amp alternator (completely screwed)
1 x rear differential (completely screwed)
1 x 80 Amp alternator (dead, but being rebuilt today)

Then perhaps I can move on to a couple of months before, but the list would be endless..
Many of my problems are partially self inflicted due to the petrol - diesel 2.8 conversion.

I guess some of the problems also stem from my going out and doing laning most of the time and P&P sites... and I must work out a way to stop Alternators being filled with mud/water so that they don't blow up.. I reckon that's what the problem was with the 80 Amp cos I went thru a ford a few times (washing off mud!)

Dunno.. I love my Frontera but some times it all seems like too much hard work! ;)

i have had the same thoughts as well, only a few months ago, i thought is it worth the expense.

brake master cylinder repaired,
front brakes seized,
all new bushes on the back
new pipes from the fuel sender, (after major petrol leak)
new power steering belt
new fan belt.
new heater matrix

now going in for lower ball joint and wheel bearing check and front suspension check, due to funny noises coming from that area.

all in a year, cost of repairs to date, £***.** more than i paid for the car.

but at the end of the day, i love my truck.

I love my frontera, but in reality it is 13 years old and it is at about 10 years when most cars start having major problems. So long as mine is structurally sound I dont mind replacing bits as they wear out. At least I know what has been done and what will need doing in the future. As people have stated here before, unless you buy a brand spanking new car you never know what might go wrong and at what time.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!
