Rear demisters have plugs that get undone/done up a lot because of the removable rear windscreen.

When you open your rear tailgate have a look at the two black bits that hold on the rear window..

Beside the one on the drivers side of the vehicle and down the bottom of it there is a small grey (or whatever colour) plastic cover which you can unclip.
Under that is TWO plugs.. one is for your rear window wiper, the other is for you rear window demister.

Firstly make sure they are ALL plugged in properly, then once that is done get someone to switch it on for you and check it... see if it's making strange noises then.

The wires are then run up underneath the black metal that holds on the window, if you take out the rear window you can access all the wires except for those just before the plugs.

As for your jack that's already been explained and hopefully your locking nut will be with that.
