Finally I'm A Frontera Owner - but did I make the right move

Postby abz2005 on Tue Jan 31, 2017 11:03 am

Morning All,

I'm Abz, based just outside of the Birmingham in the Midlands.

Finally picked up a Frontera this weekend after weeks and weeks of looking, it needs some odd little jobs doing but nothing I can't sort myself.

After making a few calls this morning to get a few parts together including a local Vauxhall specialist that has been able to source even the most obscure parts for me in the past has told me that they can't supply a centre section exhaust as Vauxhall no longer supply it, a lot of motor factors have said the same.

I asked the Vauxhall specialist will I struggle to get parts for the Frontera his answer came back yes. I'm wandering now if I've made the right choice.

Anyway other than that I love the car to bits even though I've only owned it 2 days she's a 3.2 LWB LPG converted with all the trimmings, I'll post a pic up as soon as I get her cleaned.

He lies. You can get almost everything for them. The engine and gearbox for example are fully supported by Isuzu (as they are an Isuzu Rodeo built under license).

Some bits will be tricky but nothing impossible.

None of the tyre/exhaust fitters could get me a rear section for my 2.2i. Looked on E-Bay and got one next day. Bit tinny but will do the job.

Abz

While not one of the new(ish) B Series I've never really had any issues getting parts for the 2.8 sat outside.

VX Dealers (in my experience) are in all honesty next best to useless unless you really know what you want, have the part number available and the guy in the parts dept can be arrsed to get up and check the system or make phone calls. The last bits I got from one was a set of shims for the auto hubs and even then they were tracked down to a dealership in Germany.

Isuzu, much better. Again knowing the part number helps.

The local branch of Motor Parts D have been able to track down and supply most normal wearing parts for me including an exhaust a few months ago.

For S/H or pre-used bits try Greg on here or ring round the local scrappers but to be honest I cant recall having seen many 3.2's in the scrapyards around Oxfordshire.

As a 4x4 they are more capable than the reputation says. That said they are getting on a bit now, mine as a 1995 is knocking 22 years old and at 284k just about run in. Does a min 65 miles / day plus weekend driving and goes where it's aimed. Does what it says on the tin!
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Comments on 'O-no' the truck may be left here

Owning a 2.8 is a hobby in it's self...

As Snapper says, find a good motor factor, and they'll be able to source most of the basic stuff you'll need. Ebay can be a good source of none OEM parts if you know what you're looking for.

Gregster HERE is a cracking source for 2nd hand stuff

This Ecat HERE is an excellent source for finding original part numbers, which can give you an advantage when looking for the less common parts. The link should take you to the B series index page
