Hi to all, looking for some ideas?

Hi all!,
I've had my 2.2 DTI Olympus frontera for about a year now, paid £2000 for it, always wanted one as a kid, next best thing to a Landy..lol.
I'm still upgrading, well not much so far, just a roof rack tray so far, hopefully want to get a snorkel fitted next month.
I'm with RAYNET (radio amateurs emergency network), really need it to be off road worthy, probably spent a £1000 doing bits up when I brought it, they never advertise the stuff that's wrong with it, exhaust pipe had rotted, left side step had rotted and general full service and stuff. Groan.
Engine malfunction lamp keeps appearing and disappearing, airbag/belt lamp stays on more or less all the time...mechanic I use said he couldn't fix that... Just waiting for the next thing to go wrong :( , overall tho, it's been a good runner, getting me to work and back and few long trips on holiday.
Any ideas to upgrade it appreciated, I'm not very good with cars, but can get it done somewhere if I know what needs doing.
Regards
Matt 2E0KIA

EML is most likly vacuum pipe leak. Pays to change all 6m of them in the engine bay and down by the axle. Get some 3mm ID silicone hose off eblag and replace them all one by one including the one to the back of the head. Make sure one by one so you don't lose track of where they go, and get it in a different colour so you can easily see which ones have been replaced.

Airbag light is most likely the yellow connector for the seatbelts down by the seats getting gunked and moving around as you roll about in the seat. Disconnect the battery (after taking note of the radio code). Disconnect the plugs and clean thoroughly. Put back together.

Another good performance/economy mod is cleaning out the inlet manifold. The EGR gunks the inlet up. It can be all removed and cleaned out (use new inlet gaskets). You do however have to prime the pump or you run the risk of it running dry and dying (which is a big expensive thing to fix), then bleed the injectors to get it running afterwards.

Hi Matt
welcome

you could try cleaning the terminals to the seat pretensioners connectors - the yellow connectors under the front seats - I believe that the battery needs to be disconnected for around half an hour before disturbance, please don't quote me on that., and don't use any metal wire brush that might short circuit the connector.
I however didn't bother taking the battery off, just pulled the terminal apart carefully and cleaned as best I could with a cotton bud and some wd40 - now its sorted . there may be a thread on here somewhere going into greater detail...

4.6 V8 on LPG. More economical than my diesel Troopers.

Just replaced all the knackered shocks for a set of Terrafirma HD's. Handles and drives like a dream on/off road. Slowly fixing the little niggly issues which you get with any 20+ year old truck. For all the faults with Green Oval, a good one is a pleasure to drive.

Thanks everyone for the good tips and advice. I'm getting it serviced at the end of the month and I'll print this thread off for him to look at.
Sod's law, I've just had AutoGlass fit my passengers window as it shattered as I was driving up a dual carriageway the other day, (although I think it may have been someone with an air rifle taking pot shots at the cars!).
Always my luck  .

Still looking for ideas for the fronty, always wanted a good 4x4....perhaps a bit of work and I can get it back to its prime

I've recently had a service and MOT and it's passed the MOT thankfully, although some problems the mechanic still can't work out, I'm wondering if I should start looking for a better mechanic! Or do it myself...I'm not that mechanically minded tho  .

The engine malfunction lamp quizzed him, I printed out the answers on this thread, but I'm not sure he took it onboard.
He worked out why the handbrake lamp was coming on regularly, he said my brake fluid was low....

I've still got to work out why the airbag light/belt tensioner lamp frequently keeps flickering or just stays on!...
I get the impression sometimes, that mechanics will say anything to make it look complicated and usually more expensive

Still, want to get it all done and make my fronty an off road-worthy car!.

Off topic

What's everyone's views on OBD REMAP PLUGS?, I've seen one on eBay for £33, you just plug and go.

I appreciate the feedback :D
