WARNING

Re: WARNING

Postby geeks on Fri Jan 24, 2014 11:14 am

One assumes you ahve put an email out to all staff warning them of this?

Had to get an email out to everyone recently about the "Windows Phonecalls"

Although currious you might want to be having a check over of your AV it shouldn't have been able to spread like that accross a network...
Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check

Hipo-Dan as the director....your own office, a nice fancy desk...everyone would only see you from the waist upwards, so you could save £££ by just buying just a suit jacket, shirt and tie....and going Hipo-Dan-woods-styley on the out of sight bits!!!

Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again...
She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body...
Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer!

Robfog wrote:One of our Directors opened an email attachment last night. We now have no accessible files today! Its called a Cryptolocker, VERY nasty basically it locks all your files and asks you for a very reasonable $400.00 to unlock them. So may day is now filled with restoration of our server from backup
my warning is if you are unsure about an email attachment DON'T OPEN IT

Was speaking to a company last week that lost 10 years worth of historical data after this little beasty got in. Same as Rob said, don't open links or attachments on email, if you do make sure that you have a recent backup ( and that recovery has been tested ). There is nothing you can do to unencrypt ( apart from pay - this is still not guaranteed ) these files so make sure you have backups.

Thinking that services like Dropbox and Google drive will save you, they wont. When the malware is run on your PC it will encrypt everything it can find. Those services will then duplicate the encrypted files round all your devices.

Have backups and have them off line ( not plugged in ) unless you need to recover your files, also keep these up-to-date.

We are also starting to see variants that spread via USB devices so think twice on using other peoples memory sticks..
