banter general discussions etc
by vauxsqueeks on Sat Dec 07, 2013 8:20 pm
HI, I went to look at a 3.2V6 today and plugged in to see what was reported.
As it turns out the ABS light was on and the car was reporting C0221 ABS sensor short or open circuit. When I tried to connect to the engine under diags, it reported ECU mismatch.
I changed the settings and ran through all years from Diagnostics, 1998-2003, Frontera-B, Engine, 6VD1 and could not connect with the ECU.
BODY, CHASSIS, ETC all seemed to work OK.
Any ideas? Thanks

Quite a few people on here over the years have been unable to get a connection with tech 2 with the 3.2 ECU . Don't know why, seems strange...even dealers can't connect with some. A lot of ordinary code readers won't connect with them either...I've no idea why this is but I too would like an answer. Fortunately mine will talk to a reader and tech 2.

It may be relevant or not.. but I have an MDI ( Yes, it is a genuine one ) running on a laptop with Global TIS & Tech2Win.. I already found out that the MDI will not read the Frontera-B airbag ECU's as this is stated in the list of limitations in TIS IMHO, the OEM tools should read all the ECUs correctly... seriously... This is PANTS!

They are banging them out for a tad under £16 + P&P each - fella said normal retail is £49. The OEM number the seller as quoted is correct for the B series rear sensors - unfortunately different for the rarer used A series of else I would have been in there.

Don't go buying 2 of those sensors.......the B only has one abs sensor on the rear and its fitted on top of the diff....and has one on each of the front wheels. Front and rear sensors are different. Anyway back to topic

Last stray - EPC says there a 2 different sets of ABS sensors for the B series fronts NOT USED WITH MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY RH 97182385 LH 97182386
WITH MULTI-FUNCTION DISPLAY RH 97169506 LH 97169507
Don't know what the Multi-function display is all about.
Doesn't cross reference with the Monteray so guess the ABS system on the B series is pure Vauxhall as opposed to common use with Isuzu. Also I couldn't find any cross referencing with other Vauxhall models from the same period.

The MFD is the trip computer giving mileage, MPG etc rather than just having the clock and Radio display. This one has it so will be need the more expensive ones probably!
Thanks for checking.
