new toy

hope you folks dont mind another trooper knocking about the forum as i picked one up today from a x fog member the same guy who i got brutus my old 2.4 from. so the new truck is a 93 3.1 td trooper on 33s with body/susp lift and all that jazz . will get it up on the members ride section when i get a few good pics. so here a wee preveiw for now

The chassis has been completely overhauled Greg ... body mounts, cross members the lot.

when i had my trooper i bought a set all round for about £150 inc del
i fitted fronty pepperpots with 255/75/15 on and need arch's they were easy to fit

Cool...thats can a troopers weak spot, chassis corrosion, in fairness no worse than toyotas/nissans, and much less severe than green ovals, but they didnt get the rust proofing that our fronty's did from the factory I dont think.

The Jap market versions were a lot better for resisting rot. My Mk.I is pretty clean underneath and its 21 odd years old. The rails seem to made from girders

However this year I have a complete over haul of the underneath planned. Fill the chassis with old oil and drain out to get into all the nooks and crannys, followed by filling with wax. Then the outside a good wire brush down and coating with Kurust, then heavy coat of Hammerite.

yea the chassis in pretty good nick. thats not a bad idea filling it with old oil as i have about 40 liters of it in the shed that i was keeping for killing tree stumps
looked at them arches the other day but thought i could save a few pounds at the scrapyard huh thought wrong they where looking £200 for a set . but ive found a set of rubber arch extenions on the bay for £60. sorted

The oil in chassis wasn't my idea ... Got it off a mate of mine from ITOCUK. Have to admit it.

As for arches. Anything off a Mk.II, III, IV will fit straight on ... some Mk.IV's have plastic flared arches.
