Re: Is it normal ????I managed to get the back end out on my 2.3 regularly even with brand new Khumo A/T's. Did involve liberal use of the throttle, rear LSD, and slightly damp road on the junction I was pulling out of

Re: Is it normal ????Lol ... it was Khumo Road Ventures on my 2.3 as well ... perhaps its a winning 2.3/Khumo/LSD drift combination.
I am on a set of Westalke H280 A/T's now with LSD. Haven't managed to do the same. They seem pretty good at the moment ... especially for a budget tyre. I believe Fogman is running the same on his 2.2 Petrol Frontera B and he says he hasn't managed to fall off the road yet. Only thing I have to say is they took a fair bit to balance and they do sing a bit at around 50mph. Apart from that they hold out very well on the corners with a bit of aggression and track nicely at speed. p.s. They are 31x10.5 R15's and set at 32 PSI all round. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771

Re: Is it normal ????Well today wasnt too much fun. Me and the wife took our 3 kids into town to watch a film at Vue and the back end came right out on us 2 times we all pooped. Im falling out with the car big time at the moment as if its doing this just in the wet i dont want to know what it will be like in snow and ice
If i was to slow down anymore on the roundabouts i would stop so its not like im driving it mad or anything just carnt work it out and like i say its putting me off owning the car Rolling in my TANK
Re: Is it normal ????The V6 is quite torquey to be sure, so gunning it will make it slide. I would be tempted to drop the tyre pressure a couple of psi and see how it goes. What tyres do you have on there. A/T's will not grip on the road as much as road biased tyres as well. Dont give up on it yet, just remember it won't handle any where as near as your old Vectra V6.

Re: Is it normal ????Bit of an odd ball suggestion but could you have an oil leak/brake fluid leak from the axle somewhere which is getting on the tyres and contaminating them (or this has happened in the past and contaminated them)?? if this is the case then I know this is a bit boy racery (you did get a v6 lol) but have you tried spinning the wheels in the dry to scrub the top layer of dead rubber off and get down to some better stuff??
I've had the arse end sliding on mine in the wet a couple of times but was on a roundabout frequented regularily by trucks who had smeared it with diesel (have to be really careful on the bike or i'm off down the road!!). It's also happened if I have been really liberal with the right foot as well. This is with the BFG AT's on it now (was worse with the old crappy tyres that were on). Fingers crossed you can get it sorted as it would be a shame to ruin your enjoyment of the truck. Cheers Alan Alan

Re: Is it normal ????Any rear wheel drive will get lairy in the wet on roundabouts if you arent careful on the gas, especially if you have got a couple of hundred horses on tap...
Gently gently is the answer...use small amounts of gas, in higher gears and turn smoothly and avoid erratic movements in steering or acceleration/decceleration... Get your tracking checked as if the car is toeing in its more likely to flick the rear out, and as mensioned above tyre pressure/tread pattern and shocks can have a bearing... Having some weight in the back helps, but hard shocks, overinflated tyres etc will tend to make the rear bounce on our poor road surfaces, and any bounce will result in a loss of traction/wheelspin if you have enough horses on tap. Any gutsy rwd is gonna be "entertaining" to drive in the wet, be it a BMW, caterham or even transit or 7.5tonner! Oversteer is something that will be unusual to a FWD driver (unless driven hard with lift off oversteer)...but is easy to learn to control it so it doesnt alarm you too much when/if it happens, and you will end up a far better driver for it. If it breaks out dont do anything erratic or panic, simply turn gently into the slide and gently ease off the throttle and the car will come back into line... backing off the gas suddenly will throw the weight bias forwards making the rear lighter and more likely to slide further, or could cause the car to snatch back and slide the other way if you have dialled in a bit too much opposite lock. As for steering into the slide, dont pile on loads of opposite lock...this will only over correct the slide and throw the back end out the other way...Simply keep the front wheels pointing in the direction that the car should be going and use a gentle decrease in throttle to bring the back back in line...Really it doesnt matter which direction the car is pointing in a slide, so long as it is travelling in the right direction, so dont rush to straighten it, gently bring it back in line and you then wont end up fishtailing up the road or spinning it. Try and find somewhere to have a practise, and you will get used to it real quick... You think your fronty is bad...you should have tried driving my old mk2 escort...RWD Normally aspirated Cossie lump or 50's giving 250ish bhp at the rear wheels, cut slicks, welded diff and bugger all weight! Re: Is it normal ????Check your manual mate. But came across this http://www.fronteraowners.co.uk/info/tyre_pressures.htm
26 or 29 depending on tyre size. Also, just 'letting a bit out' isn't very scientific
Re: Is it normal ????Thanks buddy mine should have 26 according to your link, will get it sorted at the garage in the morning
