Some quotes on you guys have been getting seem extreamly high, im 23 and have just got a quote for £538 from co-op. Fully comp with 4years ncb, no mods though. And its my only car. [well my wife has a car but i dont really use that]
Just as a note this time last year i had a v reg Peugeot 406 2.0 Hdi and that was costing £998.98 to insure. and that was the cheapest

i was getting quotes of ~£400 fully comp but as the truck started to get modded i thought id better start declaring them - most companies wouldnt offer cover

so took the advice and went to frank p, they told me up front i'd need at least 5 mods or some some substantial ones if less in number - reason being that people who modify their car tend to look after them more and maintain them better which is why quote is cheaper - same on classic car insurances i have had over the years, stick an agreed value on and watch the premium go down - they know you wont wreck your vehicle! i had £15k cover on a vw bus for £99 fully comp limited to 8k mileage and they were right a was always too scared to drive or leave it anywhere

only spanner in the works is that the quotes of around £100 mark were for 2nd car only - again expected that you dont use everyday and only for fun/pleasure and so no cover for commuting regardless of agreed mileage levels. as my truck is main vehicle for me they offered same terms (green laning etc) but with commuting - cost went up to £250 but still good value. only downside is no NCD can be built up so you'd probably need to stay on this type of policy going forward - mind you my old insurer told me the NCD built up would "hold " for 2yrs.

in summary (i think) if you have no or limited mods go for a normal policy - even if ~£500. if you have mods they must be declared so go for a specialist and accept the trade off with NCD but gain on price and even better if not your main car.

No discount here for Adrian Flux as I've never approached them for it, they wouldn't cover and L post code last time I asked a couple of years ago so I didn't take it any further, I don't know about the rest of the team.

co-op just quoted me One payment of £652.50 or if paying monthly £696.00 fully comp with protected no claims and legal expenses . Without the misses as additional driver (even though she can driver any car on her own policy) one off £800.74 or paying monthly £854.12

So remember it might work out cheaper if you add your other half to your policy

I recieved a fairly reasonable quote from Adrian Flux late last year and they did ask me at the time if i was a member of an owners club which i am but they said they wouldn't offer a discount to which i politely replied whats the point in asking that question if it makes no difference to the premium price & because i said that they then putt the phone down mid conversation

I noticed in the small print quite a few companies no longer cover you to driver another car 3rd party with the owners permission

Ive just came off:- http://www.1stcentralinsurance.com and without my mods they gave me the quote that you see (which isnt really much) but with my mods,they couldnt give me an online quote though. I got an online quote of:- A single payment of £226.77 and £243.10 with a deposit of £45.35 and 10 monthly payments of £19.77.

I have a policy with esure for the V6, and a policy with Adrian Flux for the 2.8
Flux at time of new business a couple of year back was the cheapest, at time of last renewal they was defiantly not competitive but for ease, I simply let it renew and paid. (only remembered when it was too late)

I'm currently with 1stcentral and looking for elsewhere for my renewal next month as they don't allow you to drive other cars third party even under fully comp which I always like to have. Here's my email to them about it....

I just got some quotes from that site you put down..Very confusing in how they quote you...I tried a quote with my car being on a driveway...Quite expensive on that first quote but i then did the same quote but then put down my car is parked in a garage instead the price was much dearer I have held my full licence since 1981 and no accidents or convictions

Stretch,I dont have access to any other motor so that wont bother me too much. If you were to have seen the highest quote's that Ive been getting you would be surprised. I was getting quote's from £459 right up to £9999.99.

also worth noting that the premium can actually be HIGHER when having the car parked on your driveway which is due to the increase in burglaries which specifically target the vehicle so it can be actually cheaper to leave it on the street as there is less chance of associating it with a particular house.
