Re: Snow Drivingyes, you can use it on snowy roads, but as soon as you hit the gripy stuff again switch it back
flying solo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Re: Snow DrivingYour fine in snow, even patchy snow as long as the tarmac patches are not to regular or large and the road is slippy so as to release the wind up in the axle.
Have a look at this on the FOG Wiki http://www.fronteraowners.co.uk/wiki/in ... _FAQ/Guide Ste

Re: Snow DrivingThanks guys,
I thought that might be the case but I'm really enjoying the car at the moment and don't want to break it from being a pudding. Ta Alan Alan

Re: Snow DrivingIf you feel the steering pulling slightly or feeling tight that is wind up and you should switch back to 2wd as soon as possible
We all have to asked, to be honest the bumf VX send out with the car (A series especially) is very vague Ste

Re: Snow Drivinghi all,
another quick snow question. if your pulling out to a gritted road from snow and been in 4wd, is it ok to just put it in 2wd and go without reversing to unlock the hubs? just thinking about if someones behind and reversing aint an option. would this stop any wind up? cheers.
Re: Snow DrivingNo probs with not unlucking your hubs Fred...in fact I would deliberately leave them locked as it will go back into 4wd when you are going then without stopping (but you are not really supposed to do that though!)
Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
click here for the SE Events Index/links Thread...see all the reviews and whats coming up soon! Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again... She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body... Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer! MAKE IT or BREAK IT! TEAMXTREME4X4 ![]()
Re: Snow DrivingI have driven hundreds of miles with the hubs locked and if the conditions warrant it I would advise keeping them locked for the convenience, that goes with auto hubs and manual hubs on the A series.

Re: Snow Drivingcheers for the info guys, just need the snow now.
Re: Snow DrivingEvening all.
Just wanted to pick up on Greg's point about selecting 4wd on the move. Can I just check my understanding (or lack there of) by asking for your comments on how I think the 4wd system on an A works: - Whilst moving without the front hubs engaged, the front diff and hence prop shaft will be stationary (or as good as) regardless of the speed of the road wheels. Thus would trying to engage 4wd on the move will result in accelerating the whole lot up to speed very quickly, hence potentially getting a nice crunchy soundtrack and causing damage? - With the front hubs locked but in 2wd the front diff and thus prop shaft should be turning at a similar rate to the rear, just not being driven by the transfer box, but rather by the wheels. So if this is the case, then in theory you should be able to move in and out of 4wd at reasonable speeds without causing too much trouble? Cheers, and sorry to waffle on. I just like to try and understand the mechanics behind what's going on... Lee Last edited by Lee_R on Wed Nov 24, 2010 9:23 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Snow DrivingAssuming you have auto hubs, they will not lock until you select 4wd (from stationary) if however you deselect 4wd and do not unlock the hub by reversing (or leave manual hubs locked) the drive train (front prop and diff and driveshafts) will not rotate with power from the gearbox/transfer box but the wheels will be locked in dragging these components, it will not damage them.
You can not change into 4wd at speed on the A series, you can at very low speed with a bit of practice but if you get it wrong you will pay the price with the loud crunch and gearbox complaining Ste
