Clearing snow properly...a lesson learnt!!

Managed to get the chevybravafing going again yesterday....and went out towing stuck people with it...

Cleared the snow off the windows, but didnt bother with the rest...roof is too high to reach anyway

After about 1/2 hour the snow loosened on the top as the roof panel warmed up I guess....

and as I came down a steep hill, all the contents of the roof slid forwards and down the windscreen...

I had the wipers on at the time and the weight of snow sliding down and meeting the rapidly moving wipers sheared the mechanism off the back of the drivers side wiper arm!!!

I was now in a blizzard with no wipers as the were getting tangled up together and the n/s didnt sweep the drivers side...

Limped back home...scuttle panel was a mass of ice so little chance of getting the screws out to have a look at the mechanism...and it was blowing a blizzard still so I was suffering a lack of enthusiasm for standing in the snow working on the truck...

So I removed the drivers side arm all together, and rotated the N/s arm about 60 degrees, which is in the middle of the car, so is now sweeps the drivers side and most of the n/s,.....works ok as the n/s has quite a long sweep arc... and I now have a kinda DTM styley single wiper conversion...
well it will do till it warms up a bit and I can fix it!!!

Morale to the story.....

clear the snow properly off your vehicle..... :shock:

Ps....if anyone has got a fronty A wiper mech, I may well be interested once I have confirmed what has broken on this one!!

Now I use a soft brush, same as a vhacle car wash brush to reach the roof

hi gregster, thanks for this post could have happened to me as I didnt clear the snow off mine the other day sorry to read about the broken wiper, good temp fix though . If you will go out being helpful!
Had loads of snow on the roof of the 2.5 the other day(which is going fine by the way),the back windscreen wiper was like something out of the ice age all frozen in a big clear block of ice.I didnt have the problem with snow off the roof but I had an interesting time with it building up against the snorkel being pushed by the drivers side wiper.
The snow strip got so wide that I had to start leaning to the left to see out.I tried to clear it while going along but being so short had to stop ,get out and do it all properly.After a while the screen must have warmed up because the gathered snow was melting and it didn't build up so much.
I've just let wife and daughter go out in it to get bread and milk up the slithery hill to tesco's,I'll be interested to see what she thinks she was never impressed with the 2.3

Lee was out in the Picasso and went around a corner and as today has been a bit warmer the ice is finally showing signs of melting, she heard a load rumble and saw two half canned gents (weatherspoons was nearby) on the kerb jump to one side swearing their heads off, thats when she notices a flying iceberg from her roof heading towards them

Did you end up doing any pulling out over the weekend!
Sounds like Blue Bell hill would have been the place to go - fella was telling me that police were instructing people that they must get their stuck motors pulled out of the way, and then the motorist were getting a bill for £150 from recovery firms for privilege.
Whether that's true of not I can't say, but I kicked myself when I heard.

I reckon your spot on there Greg - talking to Mick today, our retired traffic cop warehouseman, he said the view would have been that the abandoned cars would have had to be removed and put in a pound - apparently over near you (Sheppy).
In Mick's day in the job, he says, the view would have been that motorist who risked driving in adverse conditions thus causing an obstruction by leaving their cars abandoned on the public highway, would have been responsible for any recovery costs.
