Hi, I need help, After driving thru a puddle (deep but not to wide) over the bonnet came the water, on comming out of the other side and up the hill the EML came on when at idle. As it was the last bit of the day I drove to coneveint spot and changed the air filter, as there was water in the air box and the filter was soaking wet. I was able to drive home with a spare (cone) filter attached BUT the EML was on all the way home. Bouth new correct filter on the way home and found that when the engine was reving the all was ok, when comming back to idle the EML comes on. so my questions are 1) Is this a problem with the MAF, and will it dry out or are they fragile and will need replacing. Secondly and worse still, one of the elecy fans by the radiator snapped a blade off, which then indeed holed the rad. 2) Where can I get a new rad for a 2000 2.2dti LWB (as 2 places so far have seemed to say main dealer only ) 3) Is there any way to repair a leaking rad (NOT Rad weld) that is worth doing 4) Can I get a blade for the fan or is it a new fan moter and blade. Yours Sick as a parrot Trev

Ok gets worse
spoke to 2 peole for price who said dealer only on the rad, so spoke to deal who said,
£410 if its a early 2000 of £197 if its a later one, will need chassis number to confirm.
£148 for the fan motor as they dont do the blade separate.
So does any body know of any scrap "B"s in the south east or where to look next.
Cheers
Trev

Sorry to hear you had a bad day.
First of all, regarding the EML, it might be worth disconnecting the battery for half an hour to try and reset the ECU of all registered faults, taking note to make sure you have all the nessessary codes required to the radio or alarm system.
As for the radiator, I've just checked the usual place to find part, Ebay, and there is none listed for your model, so It does look like either main dealer (most probally in excess of £250+) or take it off, and take it to a radiator specialist near you to have a re-core. usually around £70.00
And as for the fan, it will need replacing with a new or second hand one, as it will now be out of balance with a blade missing, you should be able to remove the blade from the motor, so you should only need replacement blades. I would have thought unless you are lucky and can drop on a scrap fan blade you would need to go to a dealer and it would most probally be a order only part. Would dread to think how much for the complete lot, as main dealer want £117 + vat just for a viscous fan hub without the blades.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

VX quoted me nearly £800 for monty rad, went to rad specialist in Taunton who would recore for £80 or get new for £130.

Well ordered it on tues and they said they could deliver on Wed, but as no one was about I asked them to deliver on Thurs. Well Thursday came and so did a large packet as expected (so all is well), On inspection I found the Rad is off a 3.2 not 2.2, as it has 2 extra cooling pipes going somewhere comming off the bottom. A quick U pipe fixed that as there was no water flowing thru them, I then also found that the top mounting post had been knopcked off in transit, but a quick glueing soon sorted the out. As for the fan, not only was a fan suppied but both fans and the shroud / housing. So all is now well regarding these bits, but the EML is still comming on, so a phone call to the local Factor asking for a price for a new MAF, £157+vat So quick look on Ebay and found http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260246392785&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=016 and hopefully this will then fix all of my probs. Plus while it was in bits did a few turns on the torsion bars to raise it a bit as when I took off my steel belly plate (Big Thankyou to Ken Wales ) ) the inside was nice and black as I painted it, but the outside in all shiney with no paint left at all. (pics to follow later). GOK what it would have been like with just the plastice ones Trev

Fuddy,
Yes disconnected the battery while fitting all the bits, and yes it did take me more than 30 mins, can start it up and no EML on tickover, drive along for a while then it gets to a junction / traffic lights / roundabout, and I have to stop the EML then comes on. Now even when the EML is not on the car feels like its holding back with very little power and not reving over 3k on load.
So new MAF comming and at £33 its as cheap as a diagnostic check.
