2.5 TDi - wont rev over 2000rpm

Following recent starter motor replacement (during which I had to disconnect battery). I notice a lack of power, almost as if turbo not working. Will accelerate upto 2000 rpm then flattens out.

No smoke, blue black or white. Engine starts fine and revs freely in neutral or in, 1st but wont rev above 2000 rpm in 2nd 3rd or 4th.

Any thoughts? Could it be the ECU is in some sort of 'safe' mode following the disconnection of the battery. How to reset the ECU?
(Hope it's not taken a beating during the overload caused by the starter motor burning out!)

Let's work on the basis that it's something simple first!.

ecu needs resetting, look in 2.5tds section plenty of info

Used Car Tools diag tool as recommend by Mike aka awdriver (I think). Sweet. Read codes, made a note of them but shan't bother investigating unless I get further ecu codes. Reset as per instructions said it would. Life is now back to normal in 2.5 TD land...
