****Workday at the Woods**** 29th January 2012 and REVIEW..

Hi foggers

Please be advised that on Sunday 29th January 2012 we will doing a Workday at the Woods in preparation for the first picnic of this year in Feb...

We will meet at 10am at Notcutts garden centre just off j7 m20 (head towards maidstone from j7 and its immediately on your left...)
(the meet point may be changed to the woods, if everyone attending has been before and knows where they are going...I will advise)

Please bring with you any tools that you have that may be useful for clearing trees, digging and lunch/drinks as nowhere very near to get grub when you have worked up an appetite.

Dont worry if you cant bring your fronty, we find somewhere to park the lesser cars if not 4x4's so you can still join in if you want to.

Probably not a good idea to bring dogs to the work days, I am just concerned about them running around with chainsaws going and 4x4's moving around,
and children must be kept on a tight leash and near parents at all times as we don't want any accidents.

Workdays will not be capped at the moment as loads to do, and we will be grafting as a team to get work done...this will involve some delegation of tasks within the team to ensure we are both productive and safe...
Use of chainsaws will be restricted to logging or pruning areas as instructed...I don't want to risk accidents with inexperienced members felling trees and anything we cut has to be considered so as to retain the character of the woods and to represent best productivity.
This is gonna be hard graft, I can be a bit of a slave driver

We lots to do, the recent heavy rain and high winds have bought down a fair few trees and debris which will need clearing, so we have got our work cut out.

Please note this is NOT a playday, and although some 4x4 driving/working will probably be involved during the day, we are there to work to get the site ready for the next meet...

Anyone "outworked" by Sally will be on toilet emptying duty at the next weekender!!!!

Your safety is paramount, I must insist that anyone attending ensures that they stay a safe distance from any felling or chainsaw operations or moving vehicles...
Falling debris can be unpredictable in its direction or distance of fall, so please be very careful...

Still on track to be there mate but will be in the Saab not the Fronty as still a fair bit of work to be done before I'm happy doing another long journey in it I'm afraid
so will need to leave the Saab "up top" and get a lift down please.

Put me down to help on this one.
I know you don't like to give out the directions to the woods on open forum but I was wondering if you could pm them or a mobile number as it's over a 2 hours drive for me to get there around the dreaded M25 and who knows what the traffic is going to be at 7.30 to 8.00 on a Sunday morning should be free flowing but you never know and if I turn up late i'll have no way of knowing where the hell to go.

Also it's a bit of a trek in a 2.0i so I will be in something else.

Believe you me Greg - I would rather be down the woods than having to be pulled round the shops getting pulled into what colour bridesmaids dresses and all that goes with it - but I'd better behave myself and show willing

Pete, I think I'd be of the same opinion too... Much rather be doing something muddy than traipsing round clothes shopping, etc. Isn't the fact you're opening the chequebook showing enough willingness???

Anyhow to continue the theme, le Wilberforce will be unable to make the workday, due to the fact that I'll be several countries away in Holland instead. Probably with a crippling hangover too, if past encounters with the friends I am visiting are anything to go by.

I shall inspect thy efforts at the picnic instead

Not really...but if you have a pair of loppers, or a chainsaw (and are confident with using it) then its always handy...

Just the usual stuff really...good boots, rigger gloves or some sort of decent gloves to protects ones hands...some lunch cos we are in the middle of nowhere and no shops nearby. Mugs tea coffee etc are all provided, but if you want soft drinks bring them with you.

We have a fair bit to do tomorrow but we will have a laugh as always getting the place sorted ready for the first picnic in woods of the year.

Thanks to everyone who came and helped today, namely Sally, RandomRoss, Wideformat, Rospicer and Krusher....

Mapracing and Davetherave also put in a fleeting visit to collect Dave's old shorty that he sold to Pauls Nephew, but escaped the chores in the woods, this time!

So down to the woods and set about clearing up the carnage that the recent high winds had bought about...a few trees had come down, which we cleared and generally tidied up the site ready for the picnic in a fortnight...
It was proper cold today but walking miles round the site sorting stuff kept us warm(ish)...
Was great to get wideformat and rospicer down the woods, their first time and a good insight into what we have been getting up to over the last 2.5 years or so...

Thanks again for all your hard work guys, we are looking good for the picnic now and ready to have some fun...

and my disco didnt get stuck or break...but nor did Ross' corsa van, so thats hardly an achievment!

Aparantly Ross did get stuck in the corsa van trying to drive through a muddy hole...got unstuck though and drove around it...

Hardly makes my disco invincible though...
