Newbi Saying Hello

Well New to the site as have not bought a Frontera yet, however later today Im viewing a 1994 Frontera Sport in Burgandy (removable hard top) with 98k on the clock 12 months MOT and a few months tax with part history. Chap reckons it needs a new fuel relay ? as motor vehicle tecnician to sort a relay problem out (high tickover) ran a wire form soemwhere to somewhere which means that as sooon as ignition is on it pumps fule apparantly, not sure about this but will have a look. bloke reckons he uses it everyday with no problems.

Now trying to find a buyers guide re points to check! Any idea what a fair price would be?

Wotcha and welcome to FOG...

Fuel relays are prone to probs on petrol sports so could be the problem, but I would be checking the idle control valve as these often stick and that can cause idling issues...

As for price...all depends if you are buying as a non-runner or not...If running with a long test and tax I would say £400-600 dependant on condition....as a non runner I would offer £300 ish...

But I must say you have found the best place to get all the help you need with the car if you get it, and also the best place to go playing with it as loads of stuff going on in the midlands or down here, both of which are only a short drive from where you are...

Thanks gregster Im Going to try and steal it, (not literally) it has 93k and full 12 months MOT with 3 months tax, will have a look in technical as read about the ICV and that seems a dodle not sure about the relay thing though may be a good bargaing point!

Oh im closeer to Peterborough than East anglia really but not sure if its central, east mids or East Anglia lol !

Gregster has pretty much covered it all there.
a couple of points to check are the sills towards the rear wheels, and under the wheel arches where the roll cage bolts through both are prone to a bit of rusting. Steering may seem a bit vague, but that's quite normal for the frontera.

Cant wait to view it and running cost should be no more that my 1998 Saab Turbo that I just sol d just fancy a complete change of type of vehicle and frontera looks good and DIY should not be too difficult (I hope) but this forum seem cracking!

Also check the bulkhead around the pedal box, as they are prone to cracking and causes loss of clutch due to the bulkhead bending under pressure.

GOT IT!!!!

Viewed the car last night and bought it for what I would call a fair price.

Will do the picture thing later if I find the time as will be playing.

As far as I can see there are no major faults, it drivers really well, feels very well screwed together no bangs or bumps,

Interior is very good save for the roof lining statrting to come away above the windscreen.

Laquer is peeling off the bonnet and the roof, will have a look seeinginf i can blend polish and re laquer or may just respray the bonnet.

Four matching tyres same make etc (always a good sign in my book)

Has an uneven idle hunts between 600 - 850 rpm, will clean icv later.

Needs a solenoid the one that is behind the offside headlight unit as it does not have one ! wires bridging whatever needes to be done apparently by the RAC ? ANy ideas which other non model specific Solenoids will fit?

No rust whatsoever on the bodywork!

Underside checked and no rust save for a very fine dusting of surface rust that rubs off with a finger! may underseal not sure yet.

Think thaat s about it, intentio to do ICV today and maybe a service if not service tomorrow.

Glad your sorted bigman, hope you get as much pleasure out of yours as we do. They can also be a pain sometime's but thats another reason to love em!!
