New Fronty / new member / new problems!

Hi All,

Been browsing the forums for a while but only signed up last week. I was on the lookout for a Frontera and finally found a W reg 2.2DTI Sport RS about a week ago. I got a good deal and am well happy with it.

I picked it up on Wednesday and went straight to get 4 new tyres fitted (General Grabber AT2), the tyres that were fitted had seen better days.

On Friday my partner and myself loaded it up and made the 3.5 hour trip from North Wales to South Wales to visit family. This was our first proper drive in the Fronty and it performed brilliantly and even gained some praise as we liked it so much!
We arrived at our destination and turned off the ignition as we parked up. About 2 minutes later (key was still in ignition) I tried to start it to move it forwards and it would not start. It has not started since!

The ignition comes on and the immobilizer light does what it's supposed to (to sugest it is not immobilzed). The starter motor turns and there is fuel getting to the injectors.
I decided to call the RAC to see if they could point us in the right direction but after doing the same diagnostics he said theres nothing he could do.
The only option was to make use of the RAC recovery and get a "lift" all the way back home. We booked this for the Sunday morning and tried to make the most of the rest of the weekend.

The Fronty is now at the Vauxhall dealership where I got it from and will be looked at one day this week.

Can't wait to get it back! I'm hooked!

Thanks guys, I'm well impressed with it! It's not as fast as what I'm used to but it's certainly comfortable and can go places a low sports car can't!

pretty soon you'll be lifing instead of lowering and you'll be suprised what a standard fronty can do offroad. Get onto one of the beginners laning trips or a p&p day to see for your self

Hope the vx garage sort it out for ya mate.

The Vaux garage just called. The injector pump has “gone”.

£2000+ for a new (read: recon) one

(I’ve confirmed this at a differnt local Vaux parts desk)

They’re gonna sort it but I have to pay £300 towards. I’ve agreed this.

How on earth can an injector pump cost soo much ?

May aswell just pulled ya pants down hadnt they. Speak to the new guy on FOG who has a vx parts place of his own mate, he is called Haydn on here mate, might just be worth a try :wink:

I agree, quote the sale of goods act to them, they are bound by it. If they try to blag it, tell them you will get "trading Standards" involved

I considered the Sale of Goods act route but from my understanding of the act the fault would have to be present at the time of purchase. When I test drove the vehicle and for the first 48 hours of owning the vehicle it was fine.

I don't really wan't to get arsey with the garage as they could have told me where to go and not contributed to the cost. The vehicle was purchased without a warranty.

I am not sure where I stand with this, any advice would be appreciated.

A bit of persuadin maybe................like a shed load of trucks turn up outside with ya :lol:

300 quid is not alot to have to pay towords the pump, may also be far less than pusuing a claim.
but if you did want to pursue a claim, then you whould need to have the pump striped by an indi eng, to see what had failed and why.
(eg may have had veg in )
But all this takes time and £££.
so sounds like you have reached an amicable deal, esp when the new pump will have a 12 month warentee on it too

I would go with Nitromotors view on this,an amicable settlement is normally the best (especially if you ever need to return there on other buisness).

Thanks guys, this is exactly my thinking also.

They approached me with the proposed settlement which I thought was reasonable. I could really do without spending £300 but as said already, I'm getting a new pump (imagine if I'd bought the vehicle privately and had to sort this!) with a warranty and I'm also not falling out with the dealership if any more issues arise.

However, I'm interested in where I would actually stand if I tried to take it further. Surely the pump failing is not something that they would necessarily be liable for as it's performed (AFAIK) for 75k miles and is deemed fair "wear and tear" and just happened to fail after I purchased it.
If it was a new vehicle then I would agree they would be liable as the pump had failed within un reasonable time period.
