Hello Everyone - Any Ideas

Hi All,

I have had a 1996 2.5TD LWB for just over 2 years now and it has had a constant oil leak - I have had the rocker cover changed and the crank seals, any other ideas? Also I would like to start making it look a bit more off-road without spending lots and lots of money any ideas for this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome along :lol:

I am sure one of the heavy oil guys will be along soon to help you out with the oil leak problem. As for making it look a bit more "off road", there are plenty of options - one of the favourites would be bigger tyres, which instantly give a more rugged look. Prices vary, but you can pay anywhere from about £60 to £150 per corner for that.

Thank you for the quick response - I already have Goodyear Wrangler AP's on - I was wondering about a bonnet scoop, stone chip protector, other things like that.

Not seen too many around with bonnet scoops on, but there are quite a few with protectors/deflectors on.

If you are looking for an idea on new prices, try Formula 4x4, and keep an eye on our part for sale section as well - but it might be as well to have a nosey around some of your local scrapyards, as I have seen them around on scrapped vehicles as well, and nothing that a clean and tarting with brasso wouldn't fix :lol:

You dont say what area the oil leak is as the rocker cover and crank seals are top and bottom of the engine.
However, the best way to find a leak is firstly to give the engine a really good wash down with a good degreaser and then power wash it off. If you have an air line and compressor, blow it all dry with this.
Would be better to remove the sump guards as well to get to the under side of the engine.
When all is clean and dry, start the engine and allow it to tick over until it gets to normal runing temp, this way the oil is thinner and will find leaky points easier. Keep an eye on all parts of the engine, using strong torches for hard to see parts, until you see your leak. If your leak is a bad one, you will see it quickly.
Then simply replace the faulty part.
