Frontere 2.5 Lacking Power over 2k Revs

hi and welcome sounds like a turbo problem,someone will be able to help you out later i am sure.

i had a look through yes.... it seems the the first thing people say to do is to read the codes on the ECU... now i dont get any engin warning lights or anything coming up... i just feel that the engin is underpowered as i used to have a desil van that was a 1.6 and it would out perform this car by a lot....

Not sure if I can help with your problem as not much tech knowledge but from experience with an old motor I had the problem was diagnosed as a faulty bottom end but like I say no tech knowledge so wait for somebody who knows before getting worried.

Im not sure were to start checking out what is actually wrong.... I can get another air flow sensor for about £40 so maybe thats the best place to start... but do i need to reset the ECU at the same time?

How do i tell if it is the turbo?

i'm only exp in 2.3's but yours should be simlar, fitstly check all the piping running to the turbo which should be mounted on the exhaust manifold, then take off the intake pipe & fire up to see if the turbo is spinning, if it is you may need to flush out the intercooler, if all the pipes are all secure & in good condition!!

before you do anything RE-SET the ECU (dont just get the fault codes, make sure you re-set it) i had this problem and whent through a process of elimination and still would not run over 2000rpm, we re-set the ecu and touch wood everything ran like a dream
dont waste money until you RE-SET the ECU

ok... so people seem to be leaning towards it being a Turbo fault? It will rev over 2k if i really get a long run up.. but no way as quick as i thought it would be... I thought at first it was going to be the air flow sensor.. I am having that checked today.. I hope its not the turbo as that sound more than a DIY job to me :-(

sorry.... just to avoid confusion......

How can i tell if it is the turbo or the aur flow sensor? Im a little confused now as all the postings on the site i can find seem to point towards the air flow sensor... but they replys on here seem to say turbo.... What makes people think its the turbo and not the air sensor? Maybe i explained the problem slightly wrong or something...

when a problem is posted different people have differing opinons on what a problem could be
sometimes it's good to be aware of any other area's that could be at fault
other times (most of the time) it's a quick and easy fix and other idea's are (can be) a red-herring type idea..

you'd be best to start with cheaper easier fixes first .......before going for a major componant like a turbo
