Just got a Frontera

Hi Guys,

I've recently bought a 95N Frontera 2.0 for a bit of off roading. I paid £400 for it, its done 57k miles, and had 5 months MOT. It was owned as a 2nd car by a friends house cleaner. As a bonus, It came with what looks like 4 new Goodyear 255/75/15 Wrangler AT/R too

I've already found some of the info on this site very useful, however I could do with a bit of advice.

Firstly, I dont have an owners handbook, does anyone have a spare? I was trying to find out if there is anything special you have to do in terms of selecting 4WD and low range. Do the hubs automatically engage, and disengage after use?

The car feels very tight (as you'd expect I guess from the mileage), however the drivers electric window doesn't work, and theres a creak when i press the clutch peddle (cable??). It also needs a small repair on one of the rear wings... the lacquer has cracked. i also need a near side front indicator s the lense has fallen off.

One last question. When i unlock it with the key, I have to put the key in the ignition to disarm the alarm, should this have a central locking remote at this age (1995N)?

Sounds like you got yourself a bit of a bargin there.

For the handbook, I would try e-bay - I have seen them on there from time to time.

If you have the auto-locking hubs, to go into 4wd - stop, engage 4wd and drive off - the hubs will lock. To go back to 2wd, stop, engage 2wd and then drive backwards about 3-4 meters. This should disengage the hubs again.

Drivers window could be one of many things - have a look through the relevant sections on here as there are a few topics on them.

As for the alarm, the remote central locking was, like many things, an optional extra. It sounds like you have the standard alarm (same as myself).

I have looked at ebay... no luck so far.

The lady that owned it wasn't re-taxing it, and as she didn't have to advertise it, I guessed I could get it for a good price.
I guessed it may be a std alarm system, its got ultrasonics on the roof, and when I turn on the ignition after unlocking the indicators flash twice.

I had an N plate LWB 2.2 and all you have described with alarm is Standard.

No troubles there.

I to say, regardless of the lady not Re-Taxing........It Is A Bargain.

clutch is hydraulic ..(not cable) ...

alarm sounds standard to me

to engage the front hubs ...just select 4h or 4l ...and drive ......to disengage ....select 2h and reverse about 3 metres ...then drive forwards as normal

I did my first off road day on Sunday with a couple of mates (Daihatsu drivers), and found a problwm with my Frontera... One of the rear springs were broken where it connects to the chassis... it came unlodged when the wheel lifted.
We managed to get it back in place to drive (carefully) home, however, I was very impressed with mine compared to the lifted Daihatsus.

I've ordered a new spring, and will probably sort out a 2" lift as the tyres rub slightly on full lock.

Its best to replace the springs as a pair to balance the handling. Available from www.milneroffroad.com. Cheap enough.

Welcome. If you need to know anything about your fronty, someone on here will have the answer, they've never failed me yet and have already saved me £££££'s by detailing jobs i can do myself which normally i would pay a garage to do.
